Suicide, according to wiki, he was 60. He was the most hated palyer of his time, played dirty

t
I remember when they had the first showdown at Sherwood country club in 1991 between Tiger and David Duval. During the broadcast they showed Wayne Gretzky's house and standing on the porch watching the golf on that hole in the house beside Gretzky's was Claude Lemiuex. He was Gretzky"s neighbour, talk about a juxtaposition of players.

Pretty common with TMZ, they do almost no research and just release news to release it first
TMZ flat out will pay cash for a scoop. They don't deny it. Makes them even more reputable than most media outlets.

He won 4 Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe Award (playoff Mvp) He was tough, fast, intense and gave it all, especially in the big games. He just held the torch at the Bell Centre a couple days prior to offing himself. Who knew?

I didn’t realize he wasn’t in the HHOF, with his history of success I thought it would have been a no brainer! 4 cups, a conn Smyth! I guess his reputation as a shit disturber was against him! I read this was a contributor to his mental health and the torch bearer thing brought it back to the forefront

One of the oddities of Claude's career was that he retired in 2003 at the age of 37.

And them six years later, at the age of 43, he made an NHL comeback and played 18 games with San Jose.

He did make the Hall of Fame for 2 main reasons around his regular season play which drives much of your ultimate resume:
1. His counting stats are not Hall of Fame Caliber 379 Goals. 786 points, in 1215 Career Games
2. In terms of regular season his honours are not existent - no all star games, never close to winning any award.
His rep didn't help him, but I don't think it hurt him.

I guess they didn't see his clutch play and his playoff success as being enough to put him over the top.
His style of play also led him to play for two Canada teams in Best on Best Hockey (1987 and 1996 Canada Cup)

I think he is right on the borderline.

TMZ has plenty of first responders on payroll. When Kobe Bryant's helicopter crashed they were the only news source that got it right when the major 4 news networks were throwing out names that weren't even on the helicopter.
