I fixed your post. ;)

Sad news. I used to see him at a local Toronto bar once in a while and would speak to him from time to time. I sat down beside him and had a nice chat with him at the bar of a another restaurant last summer. He was with his wife Linda. Spoke to him for a while there too. I told him I thought he should be in the HOF. He smiled and said, thank you. Nice man. RIP

Kudos to you for taking the time to probably make his day and remind him of his glory days. I always try to do the same whenever I can.

The Leafs traded Nevin, Dick Duff, Bill Collins, Arnie Brown and Rod Seiling to the Rangers for Don McKenney and Andy Bathgate.

Wasn't one of their better deals for sure. Don't see those multi player deals today.

I see he's from South Porcupine Ontario. Had to look that one up. Right near Timmins.

Thanks... He was very approachable and loved to tell stories. I would ask his opinion on various players from back in the day. He was always generous with his time. Very active with the Leaf Alumni and would attend many games each year.

Well, though I remember him as a Leaf I saw him mostly and really appreciated him during his days as captain, wearing number 8, of my Rangers, skating on the top line of two acquisitions from the Habs--Phil Goyette and Donnie Marshall. Those were the days at the old MSG on 8th Ave at 50th St. when the mid-60s Rangers under Emile Francis were just beginning to climb from their long residency at the bottom of the Orginal Six. They made the Rangers click while the GAG line of Rod Gilbert-Jean Ratelle-Vic Hadfield was gaining its footing. Bathgate was a great player but couldn't keep the Rangers from being miserable year after year. And McKenny: well, there was one typical NYC wag, I recall, who would always scream at him: "Hit him with your pocketbook, Mary!" Old MSG trick was to buy $3 standing room or obstructed view seats behind a pillar and then find an empty seat in a good section between periods. RIP Captain Bob.

After Bob Nevin retired, he stated that he had become a man of leisure and was proud of the fact that he had married a wealthy woman, thus precluding the need to work. This would allow him to play golf and indulge in the good life.

Not in the long run but I think Bathgate helped us win another cup. I was at the game when Nevin scored an overtime goal to eliminate the Leafs from the semis. I'm guessing either '65 or '66.

Waiting for dart Rocker to ask a trivia question unrelated to Nevin.

I concede your point. Bathgate was a major contributor to the 63-64 Stanley Cup team as a late season pickup.

Since the ultimate goal is to win the Cup. I would say the Leafs won the trade.

If the trivia question from dart rocker doesn't somehow involve Steve Shutt, I'm going to be disappointed.
