RIM stock is heavily undervalued right now due to stock speculators. (i.e. USA's love affair with I-products). Yes, they have rested on their laurels for far too long, but the are still a very viable company with a healthy cash reserve. Outside North America where most could give a rats ass about us, the BB is still king due to its security features. They also own dozens of telecommunications patents...

Add to this the fact that they are on the verge of releasing BB10, and the buzz surrounding it... and yes, you could call that a "buy".

Analysts have been up and down with their recommendations, and these have been publicized well. I am cynical, thinking that many want to see movement in the stock just so people can play with the volatility, not for any true investment rationale around the company. Ie the gambling side of the stock market, not the investment aspect.

RIM is fighting, but the future is uncertain.

If you don't own a portfolio of stocks then buying a single stock does not make any sense.
I wouldn't take any bodies advice on this board in deciding to buy or sell stock.
The smart guys have already either bought or sold the stock already.
The outsiders always get sucked into the market at the wrong time and then panic when the market becomes volatile.

That's all.

Buying RIM would take brass balls right now.

Stating the obvious here, but it could go either way.

What Rim needs is a home run with the BB10 (but that won't be enough) AND RIM NEEDS a major security breach into either an Android system, or the Iphone system. Preferably by the Chinese, and preferably into the US gov't networks.

The one thing RIM has going for it is security, but people overlook this in their rush to have a phone that barks like a dog, or speaks Newfie.

All it will take is ONE major security hack job in the US gov't network and RIM will go orbital. It's not a question of if it will happen, it's when it will happen and will it be soon enough to save RIM.
