Could This Be A Mastercard Wedding?

This is a true story about a recent wedding that took place at
Clemson University. It was in the local newspaper and even Jay Leno
mentioned it.

It was a huge wedding with about 300 guests. After the wedding, at
the reception, the groom got up on stage with a microphone to talk to
the crowd.

He said he wanted to thank everyone for coming, many from long
distances, to support them at their wedding. He especially wanted to
thank the bride's and his family and to thank his new father-in-law
for providing such a lavish reception. As a token of his deep
appreciation he said he wanted to give everyone a special gift just
from him.

He had taped to the bottom of everyone's chair, including the wedding
party, a manila envelope. He said this was his gift to everyone, and
asked them to open their envelope.

Inside each manila envelope was an 8x10 glossy of his bride having sex with the best man.

The groom had gotten suspicious of them weeks earlier and had hired a
private detective to tail them. After standing there, just watching
the guests' reactions for a couple of minutes, he turned to the best
man and said, "F--- you!" He turned to his bride and said, "F---
you!" Then he turned to the dumbfounded crowd and said, "I'm outta
here."

He had the marriage annulled first thing in the morning. While most
people would have cancelled the wedding immediately after finding out
about the affair, this guy goes through with the charade, as if nothing were wrong.

His revenge... making the bride's parents pay over $32,000 for a 300
guest wedding and reception, and best of all, trashing the bride's and best man's reputations in front of 300 friends and family members.

Now his friend - big time beat down. Nice friend - making you a cuckold. Given that you can't take out frustration on women physically, I would have smashed buddy upside the head a few times.

Girls always seem to get sympathy while the guy gets rocked! I would get them both but not physically. Why give them the satisfaction of a criminal and civil suit.

I would like to see some sort of proof that this actually occurred. I have heard an "urban legend" about this before.

If it is true, hats off to him. WHile Cid makes a few valid points a couple of flaws in his logic bear looking at:

1) Bash his friend upside the head? WHile immediately satisfying this is illegal and the groom could be thrown in jail.

2) Keeping his dignity: His dignity was shot when the bride cheated on him. He regained his dignity by screwing his bride over BIG time and ruining her dignity by exposing her true self to her family.

3) When the act occurred: If he caught them less than 6 weeks prior to the wedding reception the funds would have been forfeited anyhow. Different places have different policies but most require payment in full 1 - 2 months before the big day.

4) Parent pay: While this seems to be the case in the story rarely these days does one set of parents pay for the whole thing. Most of the time it is shared either amongst all parents or both sets and the bride and groom. Figuring 300 guests at $100.00 a plate, that isn't that big a wedding. 15 years ago a buddy of mine's wedding cost him $75.00 a plate and it wasn't that fancy.

Anyway, if this is a true story then a heart "pat on the back" to the groom. He screwed her over bigtime and maybe she will think twice before pulling a stunt like this again.

On the OTHER hand:

If she was having an affair with the (not so) best man she deserved everything she got. If this was a case of getting hammered at a party and making a single BIG mistake, then things could have been rectified.

Revenge: You have to be careful about how you enact your revenge. Many forms can lead you into legal trouble: Take for instance the guy who was peeing in the coffee at his office: he was charged with assault (numerous counts) and jailed!

Yes, we know it is an urban legend. The question was "what would you do?"

As for the bride-to-be, well, what can you do? Walk away and learn your lesson. Men have been telling us for ages - at least since the Illiad - about putting our trust in women.
What was said about that in the Illiad?

Cheers,

La la land
I would do the same

I would what the groom did. IF this ever happen to me.
This way her parents won't give her another wedding reception or ceremony. She probably wouldn't have ceremony again because she would have to invite 150 of those people again. And of course people like to talk. Then she never get married unless she moved to Alaska

The closest thing I can find, djk, is in The Odyssey:

There is nothing more dread and more shameless than a woman who plans such deeds in her heart as the foul deed which she plotted when she contrived her husband's murder.
Homer, The Odyssey

but that doesn't really seem to apply.

If it were me, I have no idea what I'd do, but what the groom did in this case seems unpardonably rude and classless.

Revenge?

I got better things to do in life than sit around plotting revenge. Pick up the pieces and move on.

I also find it interesting there is no comment on the wasted time and expense of the 300 or so guests in this fable. Somebody not considering that while they plot their revenge has to be extraordinarily self-centred.

I would definately not wait until the wedding. You may have relatives travelling great distances. No need to waste more money and time (then the deposits for things such as reception hall, cake, photographer/vid guy, tux, ect.) I would talk to her parents about it and provide them the photo, shake hands and leave. Same with mine. Wouldn't call her again, would start dating casually as soon as possible. Better finding out before the wedding then after.
