Shoppers who return items too often are getting banned from Amazon
The online retailer isn't the only one keeping an eye out for return fraud.
Amazon has a very generous return policy, and excellent customer service. In the past, I have never returned items because usually I ordered the wrong thing because I didn't read the product description carefully enough, or it was too much of a hassle (even though there were a couple of defective items that were sent by third party sellers through Amazon). I figure it was my fault, so why penalize the vendor and Amazon? Another reason is the hassle of printing the label, packaging the item, and shipping it.
However, today was the first time I returned an item because it was defective. The emails I received were very short and curt, just confirming that the refund was processed (one or two sentences), not the usual friendly emails I get when I buy something.
Apparently there are many people who abuse the system in many ways. Amazon has been cracking down on them, and once you're banned you are banned from life, and cannot create another account.
My question is, do you you normally return items if you are not happy with it? Even if it is defective? What if it was your own fault that you don't like the product?
Every return costs Amazon a lot of money, since the product is usually thrown away or sold to liquidators for pennies on the dollar. You need to make several purchases to make up for that loss, and if you return too many items then there comes a point where it's no longer profitable for Amazon, and they will ban you.
