With the ongoing mess in europe, china slowing down and the US falling back again I wonder if my retirement plans should change. Purchasing power of my CDN dollars seems to have dropped about 20 per cent since 2000 and it looks like food costs starting to hit another spike up with the drought.

Private and public pension plans crumbling here and there with places like the UK forcing retirement funds to buy soverign debt.

I wonder now if I should pursue more of a self sustainable retirement than one based on investments. Buy and hold long strategy seems out of whack and trading risky and the markets now dominated by algorithms.

So maybe something where I reduce my living expenses outside the city and commute in to visit. Want to make sure I have enough money to spend on the ladies going forward !

fuck... i keep hearing people talking about retiring when they enter 60 yrs even though they're fully able to keep working. I for one plan to keep working until my body doesn't allow me to anymore... well i guess it all depends on what profession one is in. Many people still keep working in their 80, 90's or so :)

My plans are to go on a spree of armed bank robberies with fellow retirees. Best case scenario, we divide up thousands of dollars every week. Second best case, we get nabbed and live rent-free for a few years then start again. Worst case, we get shot up in a hail of bullets and get a few headlines, maybe Gordon Lightfoot will write a song about us.

All good! :thumb:

....Another day older and deeper in debt.

Or one can have a rosier outlook on life:

Life's a bitch,
Then you die.
