I'm looking for a decent restaurant, say between Finch and Eglinton, Vic Park and Keele. I'm not looking for trendy, noisy and crowded. I'm not looking to impress a date. 4 old friends getting together. We want a quiet place that doesn't have the next table 2 feet away. Not looking to break the bank, but we don't want burgers and fries either. Any suggestions?

The Miller Tavern. Food is excellent, not noisy, cool atmosphere, tons of parking, just south of the 401 on Yonge.

Been there quite a few times - never disappointed.

Miller Tavern is ok. Fair value but the food is ho hum. And careful about the parking - free spots are few and the overflow is paid...park up the street...and the wine selection ain't cheap.

start here: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/23 great search function

I can't even hazard a suggestion given that you've included most of the City of Toronto.

Il Parmigiano on Yonge, a couple of blocks north of Lawrence. Unfortunately no website but prices are moderate. I've had a great (obviously Italian) meal every time I've visited. 416-489-6668

I used to live around here and I'd suggest either Sierra Grill (Bayview & Shepherd) or Winfields (Leslie & York Mills). Sierra has a good selection and a decent salad bar. Winfields has very good Greek food, not that you'd guess it by its name. Also good prime rib.

I agree with comefromaway's comments on Miller Tavern. It has the air and prices of a trendy restaurant, but the food is sub-par.

I am a huge fan of Mezze Notte, an Italian spot at 5304 Yonge Street. Very nicely done eye-tie fare, dirt cheap. The Abbott Pub at 3367 Yonge Street is a higher-end pub, if that makes sense, and the food is spectacular. Well worth a visit for one of their supper specials. Seriously. There are also a number of places on Avenue Road just south of Wilson, that are worth checking out. Finally, the granddaddy of this neighbourhood is L'auberge Pommier at 4150 Yonge Street. Its in a class of its own in north Toronto. Wear a suit and bring your American Express card, lol.
