That even though he voted by mail.
Trying to sound rational without offending the deplorables or his boss is difficult.
He obviously just repeats what his handlers and funders tell him to say, regardless of what he believes or what he did in the past.
He appears to be a plant, put forward by the GOP right wing.
I agree. She is garbage on many levels.
However, I think there are a number of GOPers who couldn't stomach the idea of either a female (Indian or otherwise) like Nikki Haley or someone with the name Vivek Ramaswarma being the presidential candidate...As I said, there are some that are questioning his birth status (like the did with Obama) even though he was born in Cincinnati, and it is well documented....

I agree, he is trying to come off as Trump 2.0, sort of like how many thought DeSantis would be...I don't think he'd win the nomination for several reasons, but who knows. I can foresee a future where Trump is forced to drop out of the primaries and there is a vacuum created. Who can fill that void? Ramaswarma is getting a LOT of press, and he's become fairly well known. But there could be others who make a name for themselves over the next year, and they could win the nom...
Keep in mind the MAGA air heads do not know the colors of the rainbow. Unfortunately Vivek is going no where. Oh well, might be the Orange man's errand boy.
This too early to speculate, debates mean nothing and the polling is all Republican. It will be more balanced when the Independents and Democrats come into the picture.
Huh? Not sure where you came to that conclusion. Vivek is the only one up there not coughing up talking points. It's why when they ask him a question, he directly answers that question rather than pivoting to a talking point that only vaguely connects to the question like all the other candidates do. They're all dying for opportunities to run on script, whereas Vivek runs off script. Whether you agree with what he's saying or not, these are the things he believes in, rather than the beliefs he's been told to have.
He would be better off finding a script with some talking point which at least made some sense.

He's being caught out on having had contradictory opinions a year or two ago. He might be more glib and confident than the others - but what does he have to lose?!

I still attest he's the least scripted of the lot. Everything from DeSantis's "I know a woman named <insert random name> from <insert random small town in Florida" anecdotes to Pence's dominate the mic to the tip-toeing around the crowd's response screams scripted. Vivek wasn't like that.
And heck, I had contradictory opinions a couple years ago too. Opinions evolve with new information. Doesn't mean he's an RNC puppet.
Even if I don't agree with him, I'd rather he talk unscripted so at least we know what we're getting.
Whether scripted or not he and the others just spout talking points. Regrettably I doubt that you will ever know what he is really thinking unless there is a hot mike situation.
