They may think Allah was answering Obama's prayers.Asterix said:They think the outcome is up to God, eh? What are they going to think on Wednesday morning if they find out God wasn't paying attention to their prayers?
So a false God has more pull then their's? That's gotta hurt.lookingforitallthetime said:They may think Allah was answering Obama's prayers.
They'll probably figure out that it was God's will. Part of his master plan.Asterix said:They think the outcome is up to God, eh? What are they going to think on Wednesday morning if they find out God wasn't paying attention to their prayers?
God always hears and answers our prayers. However, what we think we are asking for and what we truly need are not infrequently different things sometimes it takes us many years to see this, and the in-between is not infrequently a time of saying God didn't listen/God doesn't care or even there isn't a God.Asterix said:What are they going to think on Wednesday morning if they find out God wasn't paying attention to their prayers?
and Mammon is the god with the grease!Asterix said:So a false God has more pull then their's? That's gotta hurt.
I think it fair to say we have a different impression of what God may or may not be.Aardvark154 said:God always hears and answers our prayers. That is probably the understatement of the year.Asterix said:I think it fair to say we have a different impression of what God may or may not be.
To paraphrase, God knows what is best, though you may not get what you ask for?Aardvark154 said:God always hears and answers our prayers. God also gives us free will.lookingforitallthetime said:To paraphrase, God knows what is best, though you may not get what you ask for?

Terb is probably the most appropriate place to discuss religion. A lot more sense in here than in seminaries or theological college. And I doubt anyone on this board is into little boys.Aardvark154 said:God also gives us free will.
There are several good Seminaries/Theological Colleges in Toronto that are far better places to explore all this than TERB.
This perhaps reinforces some of the points I've previous stated.skypilot said:Terb is probably the most appropriate place to discuss religion. A lot more sense in here than in seminaries or theological college. And I doubt anyone on this board is into little boys.
Because it's a classic example of bad prayer - shouldn't one instead be praying that whomever is elected will be able to see matters clearly and be guided to make right judgements? Isn't that really what one is praying for?capncrunch said:Assuming Obama's going to win, I'd be curious to see how the faithful who prayed for a McCain win are going to explain their loss.
The only problem is that many, perhaps even most of the churches that have broken the IRS regulation have in fact been churches sermonizing in support of Democratic candidates. I doubt that's what you had in mind.y2kmark said:This gives the IRS a good opportunity to put some of these "psudo churches" that are actually political front organizations on the tax rolls where they belong!
Your interpretation of prayer is clearly more enlightened than that of many parishioners. I can only hope that those praying for a specific outcome take a similar view to yours.Aardvark154 said:Because it's a classic example of bad prayer - shouldn't one instead be praying that whomever is elected will be able to see matters clearly and be guided to make right judgements? In most cases it is hard to make a distinction between religion and witchcraft.Aardvark154 said:God doesn't work as we think in Third Grade - I haven't done any studying but please God change the answers on the test paper. That isn't so much religion as it is a belief in witchcraft.
