May he rest in peace.

Anyone have any ideas who would make a good replacement for Ceruti on Sportsnet broadcasts next year?

I know Candiotti did the odd broadcast this year, he did a pretty good job too.

I'd like to see Joe Carter in the booth though.

I wouldn't mind seeing Carter in the booth also. I just wouldn't want to hear him though. He was bad. He butchers the English language and uses tons of overused of cliches.

Buck Martinez was good but seeing as he got fired as manager by Rogers it's not likely they'll hire him to talk about their team to the country.

Candiotti's not bad but somewhat dull. Maybe it's time for someone new.

Joe Carter is one of the many ex-jocks who should stay away from the broadcast booth.

Mind you, I would like to get rid of that annoying sack of shit announcer Rob Faulds. Christ even Fergie was better him!

The best combination of announcers were Dan Shulman & Buck Martinez and a close second was Jim Hughson & Buck Martinez. Buck was excellent at analyzing the game and guessing pitching strategies per individual pitcher/batter match-ups. Dan or Jim maintained enough control to keep Buck in line and call the game.

Another weasily, ass-kissing, homer-happy announcer I would like to see stranded out in the middle of lake Ontario with a 100 pound anchor is Jerry Howarth. Jeezus Jerry, admit it just once that the Jays suck the big one! I would put Tom Cheek in the same category however I feel sorry for him because of his recent illness...Wait, fuck it! Throw that sugar-coating, brown-nosing mother fucker out there too!

Hey Ref, in place of Tom and Jerry, I'll ask. Was your rant brought to us by Pizza-Pizza or Staples or.... ? :p

They should grab Al Leiter if he's still available - he was pretty good in the playoffs this year and then he disappeared once the World Series started, for some reason. I guess Tim McCarver was geting jealous.

Al is okay and needs some seasoning (similar to Cerutti & Tabler). Once the World Series started I switched to Sportsnet where the game was covered by MLB as opposed to the oh so grating Tim McCarver. Though I don't mind Joe Buck, he's okay.

I did happen to catch the majority of the series on the radio where Jon Miller & Joe Morgan called the game. I think they also do the Sunday night telecasts, I like them. Jon has a smooth relaxed voice (which suits baseball) and Joe is a good fit with him.

I remember the Jay's first mainstream crew of Don Chevrier & Tony Kubek. They were not bad, but I hated Don because when I was a child he used to call the curling games on CBC and it always cut into the Bugs Bunny & Road Runner Hour. The only thing I can recall from Tony Kubek is how he pronounced Toronto.

I still can't understand why Cito Gaston has not been hired as a manager. If he had replaced Cox in Atlanta he would have won a lot of World Series titles. Today's managers need to be able to manage ego's. The bench coaches, hitting coaches and pitching coaches manage the mechanics of the players. Cito was excellent at managing the ego's of those star-laden teams (he had the batting champion ride the pine so that Molitor could play first...Suicide for most managers).

I think this team doesn't have enough "egos" for Cito to utilize his full talents. He may be better on a team that needs a lot of massaging - with veteran players of the ilk of Alomar, Carter, Winfield. I'm not sure his track record with the younger players was his strong point. And, of course, Managers need to do quite a lot more than just stroke inflated egos.
Anyway, I certainly do think he got a raw deal. Two World Series wins speak for themselves. Flags fly forever.

The first thing on the agenda for them is to get a contract again for next season. They need to figure out how many games they want to cover this year. After that is settled, they'll be able to figure out what they're going to do "talent wise" for the broadcasts.
