What a waste of a press conference. Basically, we’ll open when the corona virus says it’s ok to do so. Oh, and be careful please and keep your distance or we may never open again.

Good on Ford! He's being responsible and not destroy what has been accomplished so with flattening the curve.

As always, and especially with this epic crisis, we need to remember, heavy is the head that wears the crown and hindsight is always 20/20.

Well said. I didn't vote for him but he is doing a level-headed job.

Since when did level headed mean destroying the economy, causing poverty, hunger, substance abuse, crime, depression, suicides and despair over a strain of virus that will kill fewer than the seasonal flu (80,000 killed per year in the US)?

What is “level” about that?

And before you say “but social distancing saved untold millions of lives!!!11”. Observe: New York City - under strict lockdown. Epicentre of breakout. Sweden - No social distancing, people allowed out of their homes - about the same or even fewer cases per capita.

A contrarian view.

Agree, It goes completely overboard. Keeping the distancing is a reasonable thing to do, killing economy, creating poverty for years to come is not.

Ask people in Italy and Spain if it's just a "seasonal flu".

More facts:

Vast majority of deaths affect those over 80 or with serious underlying conditions.

Breakouts are mainly in nursing homes, majority of deaths in Ontario involve nursing homes.

Almost no deaths involving children. Zero deaths of children with no underlying conditions.

Social distancing having little effect: states like North Dakota had zero social distancing, very low rates.

First we were told that social distancing would be in place until we could build capacity in hospitals to handle a deluge of cases.

Capacity has been built, ventilators purchased. No deluge. The navy ship is departing New York; few admissions.

As people go bankrupt and commit suicide in the thousands, we are bombarded with ads celebrating the hero healthcare workers. Most healthcare workers are at home because “non-essential” health services have been cancelled. The rest of the health care “heroes” are making cringeworthy dancing routine videos and posting them on tiktok.

Now we’re being told to continue to stay home until we perhaps get a vaccine. There will be no vaccine, as was the case for sars and mers.

Prisons are being emptied because of covid fears, putting public safety at risk. Meanwhile, people walking in empty parks get arrested.

Seasonal influenza annual deaths: 290,000 - 650,000 (https://www.who.int/influenza/Global_Influenza_Strategy_2019_2030_Summary_English.pdf?ua=1)
Covid: 215,000 with a sloping downward curve

So yeah, comparable death rates.

Covid is much worse than the flu and this shutdown cure is much worse than Covid.

We are just kicking the can down the road.
There is no miracle vaccine coming any time soon, if ever.

We are fast approaching the edge of the cliff of an uncontrollable economic collapse.

Hindsight facts mixed with hindsight criticism makes for an awful cocktail. What we don't have and will never have are facts and stats had we let the virus run its course, for that I am thankful. I'm sorry some feel as though their elected leaders have failed them.

I don’t see things opening any time soon. The Ontario government doesn’t even have the balls to open provincial parks. Can’t grown ass citizens monitor themselves and keep physically distant on a park trail?

If we aren’t responsible enough to be on park trails, When do you think we’ll be allowed to go to a mall?

Whats your point ?

The new #s are from mass testing in nursing homes .

The deaths are from all the sick in nursing homes .

The deaths will go way up because most of the infected are sick in nursing homes .

We have a nursing home problem .

The pandemic in the general public is way under control when you consider the nursing home numbers .

Retail should never have been closed ( those set up for social distancing ) , the real numbers were flat lined weeks ago .

All the increased numbers came about increased testing so those stats are flawed .

Ford was on his way to re-opening Ontario until his mother in law got sick , then he changed his tune . Not a way to make decisions.

It wasnt a point it was just the numbers it dont matter where they are yes long term care is bad

Numbers have risen for last 3 to 4 days I wouldnt say he was close to openings any day soon and I dont think was made on condition of his mother in law

Trudeau the clown has no clue what he is doing so how would rest of the country follow his lead

Quebec is rushing in 24 hr period Sunday to Monday over 800 new cases I would rather see the country take an extra week or 2 and make sure it is on downward swing country wide so we dont open just to have to close again in a month or 2

Well said.

Ontario has only tested 2% of the population, and they are focusing of those most likely to be sick, of which there will be no shortage any time soon.
This is an insufficient and flawed sampling so they are essentially shooting in the dark if they are waiting for the right numbers.

Even if the tested were diverse and randomized, the volume is so insignificant that it is virtually useless data.
Testing 2% of the population over months and thinking you can say that the spread is slowing is ludicrous.

I think % of ICU and ventilator usage is the only real indicator we have to go by.
