Yup. There were Canadians that fought in the Viet Nam War. God knows why but many felt it was the right thing to do based on the PR coming out of Washington.
I have talked to a couple of Canadian Vets and they say very basically they wanted to stop the commies. At the time it was as good a reason as any.

That's what I thought. I met an American vet in Las Vegas who was a real asshole but he probably had it rough, suffered PTSD, and was treated like an outcast back home. He was a tough, mean looking SOB.

Do you have a British accent my dear?

P.S. I find your signature lines amusing. What's that about? (PM me if you want).
I moved to up state NY when I was a teenager. If I get very tired or a bit tipsy or angry I have an accent.

RE My current signature....

C loser discovered he did not have to pay door charges at some MPs on his birthday, so given how cheep he is he saw 6 women and reviewed them all. Well one girl he did not book but did a review of her anyway.

One girl found seeing him so repugnant she quit the business. One of his favourites saw him and he noticed she was not at all happy to see him.

To make a long story short, I received pms from a couple of the girls telling me he was unpleasant but if were concerned since he would thrash them in reviews if they said anything.

So I decided to speak up. And clue people in :). I am a bitch :) But c loser is a bully and just repeats the same lies over and over to try and wear people down.

:) I can pm you the entire set of quotes if it would please you :)

Wow. You could've PM'd me but I guess that defeats the purpose of 'speaking up'.

As for your English accent, Mr. Loki must've found it charming when you got tipsy or angry. I know I would.

:focus:

Three of my uncles were killed in WW2. I was named after one of them. I grew up in post WW2 London, England. As a little boy I was aware of how many families in the neighbourhood had suffered losses. I hope as many people as possible treat Nov 11 with a little dignity. And perhaps extend it to this thread.

Shades, thanks for this thread.

just glad the long weekend is here!!!.. I wonder why it is not a statutory holiday in Ontario

oh I heard this story!

The Canadian Legion asked to have the students stay in school on 11/11 because they were not respecting the day and were having fun and they would learn about the issues better in class. I was told that a few years ago.

Hijacking a Remembrance Day Thread for childish inanities. Cool.
You set the bar really low for the definition of hijack. I notice you didn't try to redirect it and contribute to the topic.. Try it, you might find it cathartic.

He contributed in a dignified way by starting the thread with a meaningful post. Somewhat better than the Attention Whores you average 21 posts per day. Year after year.

You did see the word 'redirect', didn't you? I didn't imply he didn't contribute at all. Then there are to early collection of posts in this thread from yours truly, which most members would not call the posts of an attention whore.

I find it hard to believe Canadians do not even know about their countries role in Iraq, or that well over 10,000 Canadians served in Vietnam. I find it hard to hear that people died partly for the right to call an ass an ass and now that is being screened.

By the way, in all wars civilians get butchered in huge numbers. I am not certain I want to remember that almost 1/2 my family died because soldiers were following orders. I do not like the entire Canadian idea of it being a remembrance day for both sides. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

They were not Canadian soldiers in Vietnam.. They were not serving or representing Canada. The Canadians there were serving in the US armed forces
She didn't sat they were Canadian soldiers, but the fact they were in the uniform of another country didn't make them less Canadian. It didn't make their purpose or cause any less important.
