i believe i'm been reading the response to this right here for ages. you pay when you buy. nothing to be ashamed of. when i was more rich, i used to get extended warranty on my car. not because it was a good deal, but for the peace of mind. for neophytes, the apple brings the same feeling. if you never had to take it in, then these statements don't apply to you. if you did, well, they do. i went with a buddy for an ipad issue he had. listening to the "genius" people talk, i realize they know next to nothing. just following a script. to my bud tho, they were genii!
So wait, your saying the NASA guys are "neophytes"...

LOL

They just like it for the pix and porn....;)
I thought a 14yr old gateway running some random version of linux was the preferred platform for that....

LOL!!!

That was just to counter the LIE posted by Apple fanbois that PCs will not last as long as a Mac.
That P2 Gateway still runs fine....

We went through his purchase some time back and his comments were found to be lacking a lot of truth.
Stumbled over this FACTOID from the past.

It's amazing how far GIMP has come along. Nice try, WoodPeckr.
Just presented the FACTS nibs.
YOU seem to have problems with FACTS, preferring to go by Apple 'fuzzy numbers'!...

You didn't happen to have the misfortune of going to business school like fuzzy numbers bottie, did you?....

dell.ca and apple store. Compare 27" iMac to 27" all-in-one with i5 processor and 6 GB RAM. $400 difference (and the PC is actually slightly better equipped).

Sorry Nibbler, no GIMP required. Spec to spec, a MAC will always lose.
Well, if you say no GIMPing then where is the link to the article? I think anyone can stack the deck if they wanted to.

Give this one up nibbler, you won't win. Even die-hard Apple users won't deny the reality of Apple's overpriced offerings.
Sad that poor nibs is soooooo drunk on Apple iJuice ...
...he can't understand that verity, in spite repeatedly being shown the error of his flawed thinking....;)

Deck stacking? Not sure where you get that from. I chose the most popular online stores for the most popular models of desktop machines, and posted the sites. Actually, the all-in-one from Dell is the most expensive model of desktop machine because it's brand new and integrates all components into one monitor-CPU presentation (like the iMAC). Choose a standard desktop presentation from DELL and the savings are almost astronomical against the MAC.

It's not an article, and therefore excludes author bias. It's a store, and you can build your own system. I don't think it gets much more objective than that.

www.dell.ca, and http://store.apple.com/ca. You can go configure your own system, match specs and check the price.

For Apple, you can start your customization here...

http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac/select

and for Dell, you can start here...

http://www.dell.com/ca/p/xps-one-27-2710-aio/pd

I'm not going to cut and paste my findings, 'cuz then you'll accuse me of editing or bias. Just go, build your own system and report back. Good luck with that btw. I stand by my words...when you compare technical, measurable, comparable hardware specifications between a MAC and a PC, the PC will always be less expensive.

Give this one up nibbler, you won't win. Even die-hard Apple users won't deny the reality of Apple's overpriced offerings.
Did I ever say that Macs are not priced more than a PC? Are you not able to read a simple post?

All I meant was that the pic that WP presented is not credible.
