Mac or not, its an Intel chip.

Macs suck as much as Windows machines, probably more so, its just their population is smaller and their owners have given up their first born and will throw themself under the bus for the apple brand.

mac and p.c are both made by underage children in 3rd world countries. no real difference, both need a mouse and are point and click. just mac is a little easier to use cuz it for people who don't know how to use a computer. the real difference is the price tag and because mac decided to put a huge pricetag on their machine the fanboys think it is better. more expensive doesn't mean better, it just means more expensive.

So easy is bad? Huge price tags different?

The last time someone went on a rant about the new PowerMac, they were shown to be only $300 or 10% more than a comparable windows notebook, so wtf are yo talking about? You are really having a bad week Simon.

i just got a laptop with a 640 gig hard drive and a buncha other shit for 500$. last time i looked at a mac laptop they were in the 2500-4000$ price range. where do you live that mac are comparable in price to a pc ? the user part of a mac is a lot simpler as well, i know quite a few people that have a mac and don't know how to work a pc. pc is for people that know how to use a computer and programming and the hard shit. mac is for people that want to pretend to be music producers and throw a cool effect on a pic in photo shop.

And, by that same logic, all car drivers should be auto mechanics.

Actually, if you really knew about Macs, you would correct yourself about the programming part and such. In an earlier life, I programmed a Mac that was interfaced to a PLC in an industrial R&D project. And, I hasten to point out that Labview, a premier industrial windows application was spawned on the Mac platform. The major US government labs, like Los Alamos (atomic bomb, etc) have used Macs almost exclusively in the past for their scientific work. When I first visited the NRC in Ottawa, a numbr of years ago, they were using Macs, PCs and Sun platforms.

talking about in private. not business. home owners. business use everything they can use to make the job done easier. sometimes mac are the more efficient machine but in another department a p.c is better suited. i admit i don't know much about a mac laptop except that i looked a the pricing when i thought about getting one and seen a huge price differance and from what people tell me about them. people that have both tell me the mac is way simpler to use and is like buying a computer for people that don't know computers.

That is a rather simplistic view. I have used Mac, PC and even mainframe computers, Mac and PC, both at home and at work. There are advantges to all platforms. I would humbly suggest that people do not generalise on account of personal preferences or ill-informed opinion. :)

That says it all.

Now we can get a decent PC laptop for ~$300 while Mac laptops still start at ~$1000.

After spending time at the Apple Store playing with the overpriced iToys, I am still amazed just from over hearing conversations from potential Mac customers talking with sales staff, at how little they know about computers. They ask some of the dumbest questions about PC basics and the problems they have with PCs thinking a Mac will make them instantly computer savvy....:biggrin1:

I can get a mac 'cheap' as well, but it won't do all I need it to do when I need it. Interesting enough having used windows platform computers as well I found I've paid nearly the same to have what was needed, around $2000. I use the Mac more as it's more comfortable to do what needs to be done and i don't get the crashes, freezes or conflicts that windows gets.

The comparison I was referring to was the new Mac Powerbook and a comparable window notebook, Toshiba I think.

....Let's not quibble over specs here. The price of a MAC is justified....
Can't agree at all!

Paid ~$1000 for a Dell i7 desktop ~2½ yrs ago.
Went to Apple Store and had them spec out an equivalent Mac Pro i7 desktop and their price came out to ~$3500!

Went back and got the Dell which 2½ yrs later still performs superbly with W7 and Linux which performs even better than W7.....;)

Someday pekkerhead will catch up and join the party. We were talking note books in this thread. We went through his purchase some time back and his comments were found to be lacking a lot of truth.

Another 'screwball' comment totally wrong but then to be expected from a security guard yearning to become a real screw someday.....:D

Those Apple Store specs and prices were confirmed in an earlier thread here. Perhaps you can 'dazzle' us with your investigative skills and dig them up Officer blackcock....:biggrin1:

Might earn you a few 'brownie points' towards your next copper entrance exam....:eyebrows:

Checked the specs on a Vette ZR1 (638 ponies, 0 to 60 in 3.4, top speed 205mph for about $120,000 plus) and on a Ferrari 458 Spider (570 ponies, 0 to 60 in 3.7, top speed 201 mph for about $257,000 plus), which one would you buy?

It's not always about performance, many others want the best in design, appearance, finish, quality and workmanship and are willing to pay more for that even if performance is the same, thus you get the Mac loyalists or as you call them fanboys.

LOL!!!
WTF we are talking about frigging Desktops, not race cars.

My desktop cost ~1000, the Mac equal cost ~3500.
Both probably used the same parts only the Dell is black, Mac was white.
Both have basically the same performance, only the Mac cost 3½ times more!!! Which one would you buy?

FWIW, I'd go with the Vette.....:thumb:

I see that pekkerhead is still prattling on about his desk top, which of course we're not talking about.

Comparing the Toshiba Ultra book and the MacBook Pro, even starting at $800 less, you start with a slower processor, smaller cache, less on board memory, slower mass storage, no thunderbolt or comparable i/o technology, and much less resolution. Even fully tricked out, you can't match the power of an upgrades MacBook Pro. The maxed out capacities aren't even close.

Now do you need that power? That is another question. Maybe not today, but down the road, you can bet ya.

Sure if when you say decent you mean..

A laptop with a display that has poor viewing angles. Keyboards that flex. Bulky and heavy laptop. A processor with small cache, doesn't support virtualization and other robust features. And so on.
