Between here and there.
Why the hell would you think that was a Boeing 747-8 in the video??????

That plane in the video and current generation of Boeing 747 are sooooooo different, nevermind a 747-8! Which by the way, isn't even in production yet.......

Because softtouch was making fun of the spelling error in the post as it was originally written. The plane in the video was bouncing up and down. So BOING, and not BOEING.

Some people get off on other people's typos.

THY-High Roller. I have since corrected my typo. But the Boing 747 was pretty funny.

I actually thought the "standing passenger" design on the Airbus planes would have been a good idea, even though it was fake.

There was a news story a few months ago about a new Airbus design that would have the passengers standing, like on a metro train. It would almost double the capacity for an airliner, and drastically reduce the airfare.

Airbus quickly denied that such a design was in the works.

I thought it was a good idea. For a short flight, like between eastern US and eastern Canada, I will gladly pay a lower airfare and stand on the plane.

It is not safe to stand during take off or landing... not to mention, it would be uncomfortable to stand for 1-2 hours

Yeah, that's how the "standing passenger" seat is designed. There's a bunch of restraints (seat belts) and a small cushion to rest your lower back/upper butt on. So it's more like you're leaning, rather than standing.

Here's a picture of the proposed design (Airbus later abandoned it):

I had an idea a while ago, and never figured out why its a bad idea, even though others tell me it is.

Picture this: bunk beds. You never sit. You just enter the bed with a side window to the outside, and a PSP in front of you capable of an Internet connection etc. You just code/hack/chat through your flight. And since the beds are bunk, you can pile like 4-5 people in a footprint of two seats. Others will just sleep. Add the usual music and some video channels that are cameras around the airplane (nose/tail view etc) and I'd even pay more to fly in such an airplane. Have you noticed how much space is wasted vertically? Bingo!

Now why is this a bad idea? Especially if its just a 'class' and not the entire airplane?

The lower bunk will have to be heavily discounted to entice takers. As you wouldn't want to sleep under someone with gas discharge.

Few long-haul 1st class flights have seat in lie-flat beds config. Virgin has the couple bed for two.

Euro-rail with seats on bottom & at night bunkbed above seats. While elsewhere, rails with the bunkbed config for overnight travel.

Terrorist's dream....

Mega planes carrying up to 850 passengers........terrorists must be grinning from ear to ear with many thoughts right about now......

I actually saw the A380 in action in Dubai a few months ago at an airshow there. It was one of the major attractions at the airshow. The A380 did a few low fly by's then landed and taxied around a couple of times before ending up at it's designated area. The thing is bloody huge.....but ungainly looking, much like a bloated "normal" passenger plane, which is what is it I suppose.

This is hearsay of course, but I have a friend who's uncle is a pilot for A/C. I was told that Boeing planes are more liked by pilots than Airbuses. Not sure of the specific reasons.....

Actually, Airbus is scrambling right now because of the launch delay of the 380. And, now they are coming out with a fuel efficient 350 series to catch up to Boeing. For once I applaude a North American manufacturer for taking a risk and winning. Those new light airplanes made from fiber are tipping the scales back to Boeing.

Nay, hijack planes are so yesterday. They moved on to trains, subway, financial core & nuclear stations, of course subjects of more hollywood & feature tv films.

Could it be the instrutmentation are in French & German?:)

Fun to watch...

The competition is just heating up...more to come. Love the drama. Either way, Goodtime is loving it.

Finally people are waking up to the fact, good portion of the billion people need to get around.

Asian air travel, follow by European, then Middle eastern will lead the way.

Well I like some things about Boeing. Heard of Gimli Glider? The Boeing has these ducts that open up and use the rushing air's mechanical power to power the control surfaces. So you can fly a 747 with no electricity at all, or at least glide it. All Boeings have it and none of the airbusses do. Even the older ones.

So the Gilmi Glider would have been tragic if it was an airbus. I dont care how advanced it is, it should always have a fallback mechanism for pilotage.

Well regardless of how nice these planes are, its too bad Air Canada will be too cheap to buy them. Many of the other airlines have already put their orders in for the Airbus and new Boeing super planes. Air Canada is just getting by, so although it is exciting and interesting, many Canadians won't be seeing these planes anytime soon. I mean I know I will get to ride these at some point as I fly with other carriers at times, but majority of the time I fly Air Canada. Too bad our national airline sucks shit...
