I'd love to take a few guests out to a good authentic Indian restaurant for dinner today... Can any of you recommend me some? Nothing overly pricey or cheap. Within the GTA is best or even better, towards the east end or Markham area.

I've heard good things about Lahore Tikka, although there are some negative review too.

thanks

The Lahore Tikka House on Gerrard is certainly unique, and an experience, although its great backstory beats the good food IMO. Taking guests down to that neighbourhood for a walkabout and dinner there is a good idea. Although my own ATF is a little buffet place called the Famous Indian Cuisine, it doesn't have the 'event' punch of Lahore. The Udupi Palace and Siddhartha are also spoken of highly. All within a couple of hundred yards. P Parking north of Gerrard off Hiawatha Rd.

The Bombay Grill.

It is a buffet. You may also order by plate if you prefer.
Their butter chicken is good.
I think it was about $10-12 per person(buffet, may be higher on weekend).

Located in Ajax, very close to Pickering, 619 Kingston Rd. 3 or 4 kms east of Brock Rd(Pickering).

Lahore Tikka is the most authentic Indian food I've tasted in T.O. Combined with a cool atmosphere, you can't really go wrong!

That said, The Host / Bombay Bhel are both good too.

I don't know east end at all. Banjara on Bloor just west of Christie has great food. Only drawback is that they don't take reservations and it gets crowded. So you might have to wait for a table.

Aravind

596 Danforth Avenue Toronto

i've been there and can recommend. Even Joanne Kates liked them (which is where I first heard about them actually)

Also I would recommend Baboor on Queen and John.

Other than that, been to Chutney's on Bloor and Royal York, thought it average at best. Went to some Indian dump on Jarvis around Gerrard one time - had the trotts after that one.

stopped by Lahore Tikka for the first time... The waiter said 'you're ordering too much for 3 people (1 guy, 2 girls).. It just didn't seem like with the price. Low and behold, it was waaayyy too much for three of us xD Food was not bad for the price.

I second the reference to Amaya, and note that they have two sit-down locations, the other is called the Amaya Bread Bar, plus several take-out locations scattered around the city.

Another option, Sheri-Punjab, on Danforth across from the Carrot Common between Broadview and Chester

Another option is Aroma ( King and John ).

I am a fan of their Tawa Paneer Masala curry. Ask them to make it spicy and enjoy it with some butter naan.

They also have lunch buffets if you prefer that.
