The fat kid who played Vern on "Stand By Me" is Jerry O'Connell, who later appeared on a number of TV shows in recent years, including Sliders, Crossing Jordan (opposite Canada's own Jill Hennessy), and most recently a legal show called The Defenders opposite Jim Belushi (recently cancelled). And the last time I checked he's no longer fat -- in fact, he looks quite lean and fit, and thus not a bad match for Rebecca Romijn.
