Let's face it. The NHL blew it back in the early 90's when teams starting building all these new facilities. They should have gone to a wider surface. At least the size of the European rinks. Players today are 1bigger overall than they were twenty years ago. There's no room to move.
The other problem is expansion. Too little talent to go around. The best hockey game I've seen in 10 years was a replay of the Montreal Canadians vs USSR on New Year's Eve. I think 1972. Check out the second period in that game. There was a span of 10-12 minutes where there was no whistle. It was great to watch.
Fianlly. Ban the trap. The trap sucks as much as that meathead behind the Leaf's bench !
