What happened to drivers who actually move to the far right of the roadway when an emergency vehicle such as a fire truck, paramedic and police car approach with sirens and lights a blaze?
Do they only exist in rural Ontario?
You must have to know a firefighter, police officer or paramedic to care I guess...

The last time I was in Toronto on Bloor (West of Dufferin) a fire truck approached and me and another guy out of 10 cars near the streetlight pulled to the curb.
They didn't even an attempt to move from the path of said emergency vehicle, which ended up having to veer into the oncoming lane to get through the intersection.

On other occasions...
When I slide over to the curb I get yahoos who seem to think its an opening for them to take my spot in the line of cars.

Just leaves me shaking my head.

You describe the problem perfectly. I am exceptionally peeved by this behavior. How much training does it take to get the **** out of the way.

I overlook a 6 lane intersection near a busy fire station. I am just amazed how long in takes people to move, its not until the emergency vehicle is actually stopped behind them with it's (very loud) horns blaring that they start to edge out of the way, even though its siren has been on from the previous intersection. This happens at EVERY single time an emergency vehicle comes to that intersection.

It is the law that you have to move out of the way.

Another point:
Not that I'm a perfect driver, but I didn't go to school or had private paid lessons (couldn't afford it at the time)...
It doesn't take any instruction to observe the rules of the road.
Just consideration for those men and women who need every second to potentially save a life.

Always thought they should just put cowcatchers (think of the point metal things on the front of the old steam train locomotives) on the fronts of the fire trucks... then they could just plow the cars out of their way if they didn't move......

Question: You are stopped at an intersection with a red light. Up comes an emergency vehicle from behind and the only way they can continue is if someone moves (let's say it's a 1-way street or has a long median). Is it legal for you to go through the intersection and pull over (assuming the way is clear to do so) so that the E-vehicle has a path to continue on?

A judge would laugh.

That would be one prick of a cop to give a ticket for that.
If it went to court I'm sure the judge would laugh at the cop, followed by a nice chiding.
Just my opinion though.

Depends where you are.... my cousin and her husband are ambulance personnel outside of San Fran..... apparently the country people out there think it's a fun game to try and run emergency vehicles off the road for some reason.
