RE: Grammys

Peace-niks rejoice! Simon and Carbunkle (really I love em) will stop the war!

I swear I saw Gwen Stephani at the TERB party Thursday...how does Faith Hill keep getting better looking?

You always know who's going to win. It's the one who just performed.

Wasn't the case with Bruce Springsteen...

I was shocked a couple times when Norah Jones kept winning, I may just check out her stuff to see what the hype is about.

Quite a few artists speaking for peace, Fred Durst made mention of it, what was written on the guy from Cold Play's hand? Saw it briefly when he was playing the piano.

For the record, I think Bruce was ROBBED. The Rising is, I feel, his best writing since 1978's Darkness on the Edge of Town.

I feel better about him losing to Norah Jones than I would have had he lost to Eminem or Nelly. (Nelly's album was a real longshot, thank God!) Eminem's schtick is getting old. He can no longer shock people the way he used to, now he just pisses people off.

Norah Jones album, as good as it is, shouldn't have won though. She only shares co-writing credits, and most of the album are covers.

1. I mean this with all respect, but who the hell is Norah Jones? Does follow the Grammy tradition, though.
2. Oh yes, Faith Hill, hubba, hubba. Some teasing 'crotch shots', my imagination or did I see a black thong? Wishful thinking, perhaps.
3. Nice Clash tribute.

Clash Tribute

While I feel it's a shame that it took the untimely passing of Joe Strummer for the Grammys to pay tribute to him, I have to say that London Calling was definately the highlight of the evening. I didn't know Elvis Costello could still rock like that.

Born in the USA...

...was a GOOD album, but not quite as good as Darkness. For me, USA was the album that opened my eyes to Bruce, and for a long time it was my favourite Bruce album. Darkness was a great album, and a very good follow-up to Born to Run. IMHO, one of the best rock albums of all-time, which, I read earlier, lost to the Captain and Tenile, of all people, and where are THEY now?

After Born in the USA, Bruce's writing turned inward, and became more autobiographical, up until 1995's Ghost of Tom Joad. At that point, he returned to the incredible storytelling he did in his early works.

Some of his earlier songs evoke images that make up sort of a mini-movie when I listen to them. Lost in the Flood, Incident on 57th Street and Meeting Across the River / Jungleland immediately come to mind.

Bruuuuuuuuuuuce!

Springsteen's Born In the USA concert at Exhibition Stadium in 1985 was my first real full size concert experience. It was an amazing time and just blew me away. Been a fan of his ever since. I was really happy to see him win for the Rising, I think this album more than any since USA returns to his older style.
Made me think of songs like The River, Racing in the Street, and My Hometown.
