I saw Miles Davis at Theatre St-Denis, (2,200 capacity), as part of the Montreal Jazz Festival in July, 1983. I had three tickets, and two people had to cancel out between when I bought the tickets and the night of the show. Before the show I was standing outside the theatre, and I saw a Black couple starring wistfully at the marquee. I asked them 'Are you looking for tickets?' The man was shocked. "You've got tickets?" I said "one pair, sixty bucks". His wallet was out in a flash, then about ten people swarmed around me, thinking I had more tickets for sale. I could have asked for more, but I don't like to haggle. I made about $15 profit total. 'I made him an offer he can't refuse'.
After the transaction, the man said "Are these good seats?" I said "I hope so, I'm sitting with you". We were in the first row of the balcony, arguably one of the best seats in the house. He was a reporter for the New York Daily News, and his wife was a school teacher. This was much more of a rock concert of instrumental music than what's typical of Jazz.
