Grant Fur, when he played for Buffalo Sabers, was denied membership to a golf club that most of his team players belonged too.

Although second hand, a former member of the St. Clair Golf club in Windsor would not allow Sammy Davis Jr. to play on their course.

I wonder if Edmonton operates in the same fashion ?

Guys, it happens here too. I was outside of a place called Century Room about a year ago. I was wearing running shoes which is usually a no-no. The guys in front of me were a group of black guys that were just out for a fun night. We must have waited in the cold for at least 1/2 hour and the bouncer kept on coming by to check shoes, dress code requirements etc. The guys in front of me finally get the door and the bouncer says they can't come in because of one guy's shoes. He was wearing boots. Bouncer said they didn't allow steel toe boots. The guy seriously didn't have steel toes on but was very polite in letting the bouncer know this. What happens next?

The bouncer loses it on them and they just leave. I'm thinking that was kinda crazy and now I'm worried about not getting in for my friend's bday. Whaddya know, I was let in despite the no running shoes policy.

I've seen this kind of shit go down eveywhere. Some of my Indian friends weren't allowed in to Devil's Martini on our mutual birthdays. I was already inside and thought they just didn't make it down. Surprise surprise, they were stopped in line and told to leave.

Fucking ridiculous. Racism is everywhere.

I see this everyday because I am white but I date a Black woman. It's strange how this goes go on still today and in Canada. She tells me it's better here in Canada but when it does happen I encourage her to rise above it and be better than the ones who just showed her their dark side. I personally don't judge people by the color of their skin but by their actions towards me and my friends. Treat us with respect and we will do the same in kind. After all there is only one race and it's the human race.

They have racists here and there but the funny part is this: they want the minorities to go and fight in the wars for them, so what gives with that? Why don't these racists go and fight the war themselves if the minorities aren't good enough for them? Next time you find yourself in a situation where you are facing discrimination tell them why you want me to join the armed forces? Fight and die for what, to be treated like crap at home? Look at the Iraq war, racists in the south,and many minorities are fighting for America right now, all for what, the racists?

I agree! There is nothing worse than a unqualified minority getting a job because of affirmative action. Unfortunately just being a Caucasian these days automatically disqualifies you from some employment opportunities because of your race.

All the Universities have them, they are called the Black Student Union. Talk about good old PC double standards. Just try and start a group on any campus called the White Student Union and see how far you get.

Yep..you sound like your typical naive canadian to me. Racism is everywhere here, but it's cloaked in the passive aggressive way that people here like to operate. Canada is alot more of a fractured society than alot of people here are willing to admit to themselves; people of like race stick together here. There's a reason why Harper in 2008 has to address mounting pressure to adopt some sort of code of canadian values for newcomers.

Unfortunately, I still have the busted knuckles from my years as a new immigrant to Canada. Reverse racism disguised as PC is equally odious - isn't Toronto Council about to set up a black only school?
