That's so sad...
I find it ironic sometimes that these guys work in some of the most dangerous conditions around the world and more often than not survive while doing their job... and then its some random, senseless act that kills them.
So tragic

Unfortunately, (although not confirmed) it sounds like he wasn't wearing his seatbelt.

RIP

It is a wonder there wasn't more than one fatality.

Tragic.

At the same time at least it wasn't caused by someone running a traffic light or something of the sort.

More is now coming out: The limo/cab driver's drivers license had previously been suspended six times prior to this collision. He was driving on a probationary livery-hack license which has now been suspended pending the conclusion of the investigation.

The Lincoln was travelling south on the West Side Highway (12th Avenue) when Reshad Fedahi (the limo driver) rear ended a Mercedes which was stopped for a red light at West 30th Street around 6:45 p.m., the limo then slammed into the metal barriers separating the lanes.

Terrible accident. He had a respectable aura. I knew his voice from 60 Minutes, but he also had an illustrious career.

Guess I was right.

Mr. Simon, a veteran CBS News foreign correspondent, wasn't wearing a seat belt, the official said. He had head and neck injuries and was in cardiac arrest as he was transported to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the official said.
