I keep seeing SWers posting on twitter how they dont understand why clients are hesitant to send deposits or tip as other services see this as very common. An example one gave was how she paid a deposit for a DJ no problem. However, there is a significant difference. There are laws protecting your deposit with the DJ and you likely get a receipt upon paying it. If the DJ bails on you after paying a deposit, you have legitimate courses of action to get your money back (courts, BBB etc). In this industry, there is zero protection for the person paying a deposit and there are enough scams out there to make one worry. Three times I paid a deposit and twice got ripped off. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. All of these comparisons with regular industry makes no sense as this is not a regular industry.
