Not sure if there's a thread on this already, but something I've been curious about. What do you tell people about your profession?

I'm not asking about people you know personally (friends, family, partners). I'm assuming that would vary 100% on your relationship to them, and their openness to the idea. Feel free to talk about that, though.
But I've always been curious about what you tell other professionals you might hire, that would benefit from knowing. In particular, I was thinking about doctors and accountants. But there could be others - lawyer? Dentist? Photographer?

I'm just curious - feel free to disregard if you don't want to answer!

I usually tell the people who most certainly benefit from knowing, that I am a Courtesan and then I pass my business card, if he is a potential client or accountant or photographer.

I don't personally use the word prostitute or call girl. I feel as though there are better terms like a service provider or companion.

It also can depend on who it is, a doctor would get a completely different answer than a photographer who has experience shooting with SP's.

Doctor: I am currently, quite promiscuous. I have multiple partners. What other forms of contraception or advice would you recommend?
*I have clients who I see from time to time, which is why I am this sexually active. (This last part, only if I'm comfortable disclosing fully with this doctor.)

Photographer: This is for my website. I would like very sexy but classy and elegant photos shot, to attract an upscale clientele that is in line with my rates. Here are some examples for ideas: *Insert boudoir or actual other companion photos". Here is what my website currently looks like *Insert website or current ad*.

Gotta be subtle. ;)

I don't think I ever really go right out and say it.
There are ways to speak about it discreetly and still be open.

For me it is a wise idea to have a second career, not only to cite as an employment reason but for my taxes. There are any number of entrepreneurial things one can invent to show the tax man and sound legit to outsiders. I don't want what I do to be known by outsiders because I never know who I will run into and where and with whom. When I am not on the clock, I don't want to advertise my services so to speak.

Having a doctor who is in the know is absolutely essential though and I have received great advice from him, most notabley getting hepatitus shots to prevent getting the precursor to the flesh eating disease. I would be most uncomfortable if my dentist, accountant or other knew about it. I like to keep it in a tight community, especially since I was outed once to my family.

I think he means for people we talk to, who we can be open about this profession with, not the people who we are associated with personally in our day to day lives.

I would say a good percentage of us like you and I, have a primary career/school goals we are aspiring towards, as well as probably not relying solely on this industry for a stable income.

If this is the case for some, I mean it definitely can be kind of difficult to answer in conversation, the standard "So what do you do?"

Thanks Ladies!

And yes Chloe, you're right. I wasn't asking about he people in your personal life. More just curious about the people you count on to provide YOU with professional services, who might find the info useful in servicing you.

And Marla, that's a great follow up q: what do SPs do for taxes? I'm assuming most have some sort of other source of income that they can report... :)
