Question on OBC, for Framers/Home Builders/New Construction?

Does anyone know where to find the OBC (Ontario Building Code) rules for wood framing in conjunction with Steel Columns (HSS) and Beams (W).
Are bolts allowed to attach 2x6 to columns? Hilti gun shots/nails? I have the 2010 OBC binder, but can't locate this info?
No such luck in any Home Depot/Rona "how to framing" books. Nothing on-line.
Looking for some Assistance, please. DG

I'm not picturing what you are asking, however, generally, an HSS column will have a steel cap plate welded to it and you sit your steel beam on that and then bolt it together with A325 structural bolts. An added "good idea" is to weld steel stiffeners in the pocket of your W section on both sides to prevent flange crippling.

Are you asking about attaching a 2 x 6 stud wall to an HSS column??

As far as the OBC, Chapter 9 concerns residential construction.

You can also buy the residential construction code which is just Chapter 9, but in a much more "user friendly" presentation.

Part 9, section 23 is framing.
If its not in there then you are looking for an engineered detail prepared by aP Eng and designed under Part 4.
For what its worth, wood joists can go on wood or steel beams. Wood beams are carried on wood,masonry, concrete or steel columns. Steel beams are carried on steel, masonry, concrete, but not usually wood.

I'll be framing a house, that has a steel HSS skeleton. (flat roof) I'm asking, how to affix the 2x6 studs to the columns, and how to affix top plates to the underside of the beams.
I searched all of Part 9.... no mention. I have the separate user friendly version.

If you are framing a house there is no issue with fire ratting these beams. I would reccomend using steel studs and fasten to the steel wherever required, with a hilti 450 or 460 gun. It is so much easier to frame with steel then wood.
