Question about Blackberry Storm2

I would like to get one of these and have been cruising the various forums for details on it (Crackberry, etc). I am not very tech savvy though, so some of the debates are over my head. Here's my question:

The Storm2 from Telus is CDMA. A lot of posters on the tech bulletin boards are bitching that its not being released on the new HSPA network. My Question is: why do I care? What does this mean to me as an average user about to sign a 3-year contract? Can I use it in Europe? The States? Will it be supported in CAnada 3 years from now?

There is also grumbling that CDMA allows unlimited data contracts buy HSPA does not, that the HSPA rate plan pricing for the Storm2 is waaaaay too high. Does anyone know what that's about?

Thanks from an admitted techno idiot.

Thanks but I was looking for a Storm2, and when I buy I would prefer brand new. Thank you, though. My curiosity is really regarding the apparent disadvantages of a CDMA phone. I simply don't know enough about Canada's wireless market to know if I should avoid a CDMA phone.

Storm 2 hspa 3g

I have the storm 1 and I am also waiting until bell releases the storm 2 in April. The storm 2 has quad band gsm which meen you can use it with a sim card here in North America and throughout Europe. It also comes with 3G HSPA so i am not sure what they are talking about.

http://crackberry.com/blackberry-storm2-specifications-features

Quad-Band: 850/900/1800/1900MHz GSM/GPRS/
EDGE networks
Single-Band: 2100 MHz UMTS/HSPA networks
Dual-Band: 800/1900 MHz CDMA/EVDO Rev A networks

I'm looking into replacing all my company phones at the moment. Pretty much everyone here is using an Iphone with rogers. I had no issues with them as they are all work well with our exchange servers. I was messing around with my sister BB storm that other night and kinda liked it. I currently with rogers now and have been for over 10yrs with my business, if bell does come out with GSM BB storm 2, I may have to look into it more.

Thank you for your response

My understanding is that every telecom company releases its own version of the Storm2 (or any phone, I gather). The post says that on dual-band, the Storm2 is CDMA. Other companies may release HSPA versions of the Storm2 but Telus, for whatever reason, is said to be releasing the CDMA version of the storm. There are other threads on crackberry that state that a deal between RIM and Telus is for the CDMA version. They say something about Manitoba and Saskatchewan not being HSPA compatible, so Telus would lose those two provinces as markets. There may be other reasons. Anyhow, I emailed Telus about breaking my current plan early, and about the CDMA issue and they confirm that their Storm2 is CDMA.

Bell might have a different version of the Storm2 coming out?

Thanks again.

Anyone? Lol. CDMA vs PDSA. What is the impact on the typical phone user? Is CDMA a dying system? Tx.

Storm2 only supports UMTS/HSPA Band 1 (W-CDMA 2100)

North American carriers support UMTS/HSPA Bands 2, 4 or 5 (in Canada, band 2 and 5 for Bell/Rogers/Telus, band 4 for wind)

End result, if you get a Storm2 hoping to hook it up to a North American provider at 3G speeds via a UMTS/HSPA network, your attempt will end in tears.

UMTS/HSPA Band 1 is supported by carriers in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, NZ and Brazil
