I was never a Queen fan either but I thought the movie was pretty good to watch, it portrayed Freddie Mercury as a really 'out-there' kinda guy in dealing with his bi-sexuality and his band issues along with showing he was real arrogant.

Since you have started it as a side topic, I would submit "The Eagles" in the over-rated category.

Freddie had atrocious luck.

We forget about it now, for a decade after Rock Hudson's death AIDS was a plague. The death toll was frightening taking down even Arthur Ashe and Isaac Asimov. Freddie died just as the Texas Buyer's Club was taking off and whom Magic Johnson benefited from.

The most over-rated, and I probably wont get much argument, is Bon Jovi. No original material, all retreads and cliches. I dreamt that Anna Kendrick and I were were Stan and Ollie and we saw Bon Jovi sucking Beetlejuice's (Howard Stern Show) cock. Something he must have done readily to get the advertising deal for Slippery When Wet.

Scott Weiland died from an inferiority complex, it fueled his drug habit. He wanted to write lyrics like Kurt Cobain but he ran out of material quickly. Perhaps no song illuminates his malaise than Big Empty.

Bon Jovi is the cheese that builds up between my ball sack and thighs if I don't wash. But not all cheese is bad cheese.

For some strange reason, this song never gets old.

At that point in time, there was no cure for AIDS and to my knowledge, there still isn't one today.

Plus the rampant mis-information on the cause and transmission did not help at all.

Further proof that Tom Hardy is now King of the Mountain, Teron Egerton is playing the role. Egerton played Ronnie Kray's lover in Legend. Elton wanted Hardy to play him, at first he agreed. But he backed out to make Venom and work on S2 of Taboo instead. Tom must have lobbied on Teron's behalf.

Getting ready to play Elton John, who would do push ups in a sequin jumpsuit?

I had to wait impatiently to find out who was coming with me, saw it Thursday night.

I was both elated and mildly disappointed by the film. It's a crowd pleaser, highlighting what made great. They were strident but never decadent - no creeping malaise for them. They were musical maestros yet they didn't take themselves seriously. They swept audiences of their feet with their virtuosity and their sense of fun. They were considered a passe band during Live Aid yet they set the massive audience at Wembley and the donation lines on fire. That part of the film happened, but Freddie didn't have AIDS during the event. Although I suspect he was HIV+ at the time. What I found mildly disappointing, the relationship between Freddie and Mary Austin wasn't fully formed. I wanted to know what made her so special? She inherited the copyrights to Freddie's songs and his estate, Freddie was loyal to her even when she took a lover. She remains an enigma, although Lucy Bonyton is a knockout.

Hopefully an indy film will be made exploring the relationship, that will be worth waiting for.

I haven't seen the movie yet. Being a long-time Queen and Freddie fan, I'm worried that I'll be disappointed.
I've been contemplating on seeing this movie too. The critics gave it a 2 outta 4 star review, but the movie goers on Rotten Tomatoes seem to love this movie. I still think this movie would have been better with Sasha Baron Cohen playing Freddie!

Missy.

Mary Austin is now a very rich woman, I wanted to know more about her relationship with Freddie, I was mildly disappointed. Not sure a darker view of Freddie, which is what Sacha Baron Cohen wanted, would have worked. This is Queen not Pink Floyd.

The funniest part of the film was Mike Myers as producer Ray Foster who upon hearing Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time says, "you guys are crazy, no one will listen to that".

Most of the film is about how the songs came together, I found the creation of Bohemian Rhapsody exhilarating. Queen learned from Yes how to show off their musicianship without taking themselves too seriously.

Ozzy said Tony Iommi terrified him. There's some truth to that, Antonio of Aston even terrified cancer.

The movie was really good. For context - i know their music but next to nothing about the band and its members. Probably just scratches the surface for those familiar with the band's history.

Freddie Mercury greatest front man ever. Nobody worked a crowd like he did or even a whole stadium like that Wembley stadium album, never saw any thing like it.

Freddie Mercury was one of a kind. R.I.P
