So what! Who care about this protester! They can protest all they want , in the end they will lose and the law will stay!

MAJORITY OF Quebec supported this bill 62 law. ( "religious neutrality law").

For your information.
The provincial liberal passed this law and voted yes for this law. The opposition parties Parti Quebecois and others who voted against this law
Saying it does not go far enough!! ]

I remember when grewing up in Quebec when Bill 101 was passed all the anglophone and the lawyers was angry and was going in the street to protest. The Quebec government at that time the Parti Quebecois at said we need to protect the French culture. This bill 101 when to the Supreme Court of Canada and was struck down then the Quebec government used the nonwithstanding clauses to overturn the Supreme Court of Canada decision.
So this new law will stay!! LOL!!!

This stupid social justice warrior and lefite liberal / snowflakes cannot win this!!!
The majority of French speaking Quebec and majority Quebec government support this law
And the opposition parities says this new religious neutrality law does not go far enough!!

LOL !!! Snowflakes you lose!!

PS I remember all the protest when Bill 101 ( language law) infringed the Canadian Charter right & freedom
And you know what the protestor lost when the Quebec government used the notwithstanding clauses!
After 30 years and counting the language law bill 101 still is in effect!!

I love Quebec for this law and their nonwithstanding clauses! This will protect Quebec culture and western culture and use it to fight against the sharia law and the social justices warrior using relgious expression to
Give a past on sharia law and Muslim culture that violate human rights like woman rights!

You get some stupid idiot will challgence this new law and waste hundreds of thousands of dollar to bring it to the Supreme Court of Canada ! One or two thing going to happen the Supreme Court of Canada will refused to hear it because this law will be a waste of court time, because they know the Quebec goverment can enacted the nonwithstanding clause void their decision!

LOL .. LOL..

No lawyer will want to waste time and money to get their decision overturn by the nonwithstanding clauses!

IT BASICALLY CHECKMATE!!! LOL!!!

Agree,... like the right to refuse employment to a women who insists on addressing customers with her face covered.

Mind you,... some of the incidences were Muslim women say its their choice to wear full face covering,... may be justified,... to cover acid disfiguration.

Religion is a choice that should not trump a country's laws. I agree with the part of the bill that is addressing religious accommodations. However, I also think that swearing an oath on a bible should be banned. I don't think that those who wear a turban should be except form helmets when riding a motorcycle and I don't believe in prayer rooms in public buildings. Including Chapels in hospitals. My views on religion are on all religions, not just picking a choosing which I can agree with today and disagree with tomorrow.

The face covering one is hard for me. As a woman, I hate seeing other women oppressed, however these ladies say that it is their choice. When should a government step in to ensure that a "stockholm syndrome" affect is not at play here? I don't know. However, if this is solely to discriminate against a religion that you don't like, or agree with - that is crossing a line. It is a tough one in my opinion.

I have seen quite a few women in burka's around my area. Much more so in this last year. I see one couple every night after dinner, out for a walk. Father, mother and child in a stroller. She is fully covered, and I have often wondered if it would be offensive to them if I asked questions about why. Because they really are no different then any other couple walking the neighbourhood with their child after dinner. Why is it such a shocking site however? I don't know. Why am I so curious? I don't know either. I figure I should answer those questions for myself first before asking the couple about their religious beliefs. Maybe if others looked inward first before doing things, law that are purely discriminatory would not be on the books and instead the real issues can be dealt with. I don't see that happening anytime soon but one can hope.

If the law dealt only with civil servants showing their faces to the public they serve it would be pretty much unobjectionable. But prohibiting a woman from riding a bus because she's veiled? Or wearing a mask because of smog? Or because she doesn't want to spread her flu? C'mon.

There is no public purpose served by such a prohibition, only low prejudice.
This is to protect French culture and prevent sharia law from creeping into French / Quebec culture! This face veil is nothing but a violation of woman rights!! This is about woman rights vs reglious rights!! Which is more important!!

This is not going to happen. Quebec government didn't use notwithstanding clause when supreme court of Canada ruled that Sikh kids have the right to carry their kirpans in Quebec schools. Notwithstanding clause would be used only for a major issue, not for one that affects only few dozens women in Quebec ( the number estimate of women who wear face veil in Quebec).
You don't understand quebecer !! They will use it !!
1) It is a major issue for Francophone just look at how the goverment voted! Majority of goverment voted in favour of the law!! And the opposition government( Parti Quebcois/ Action Democratic) who voted against said it " Did not go far enough". Law is not strict enough!!

2) Paris attack last year and Nice attack in France showed Quebecois what happen if you allow sharia law to creep in and allow Muslim reglious values override western values!

3) Sikh kids did not going blowing up Paris and used truck to run over people and screaming Allan alkbar !! Musliim terroirst with their religious belief in Shari law did!!

4) A strong Majority of Quebecois are in favour of this reglious neutrality law!!

5) When did Quebec ever care about Canada interest first !! Quebecois will always care about their interest first and will always look after Quebec first!

6) Just look at Europe Denmark & Sweden and rest of Europe it slowing becoming Muslim or Islamic!!
And when come to protecting French Culture Quebecois will use it to protect their heritage and their culture and their way of life to the bitter end!! See Bill 101 French language law !!

7) invoking Bill 101 French language law to protect Quebec / French culture! This is a French passion protecting their French culture! And Justin Trudeau will stay silent on this !!

8) The Charter of Values was proposed by governing. Parti Quebecois few year ago! The premier of Quebec declared several non-negotiable values, such as "the equality of women and men; the primacy of French; the separation between the state and religion.. This is very important to Quebec!
This new bill 62 is a further attempt to protect French culture!

Quebec has passed a new law, Bill 62, that bans face covering in public services, including acting as a government employee who deals with the public, all the way to ordinary citizens who use government and public services such as hospitals, libraries, and buses, etc.

I for one find it abhorrent and offensive to Muslims in general and especially Muslim women who do cover their faces when in public.

I'm surprised this topic has not already come up, as far as I can tell, in this forum. Hence my poll.
I am xMontrealeer too but an allophone .. I guess you must be the anglophone who left Quebec because of the PArti Quebecois " PQ" .
I figured you hated bill 101! I love this new bill 62 ! l hated the nonwithstanding clause...now I loved the nonwithstanding clause! This new law " bill 62" is good it protected the unique only French culture in North America! I will be put in good used against the Muslim / islamification sharia law creeping into western values in North America!

3) The deadliest terrorist attack in Canadian history was committed by Sikh extremists. Sikhs extremists have a long history of violence. A former prime minister of India was assassinated by a radical Sikh. A lot of Sikhs were kicked out from India because of their violence, that's why they have a large diaspora in western countries.
4) The rights of minorities aren't decided by the majority. Should the English majority of Canada decide if Quebecers should be allowed to speak French or if they want to have their own country?
Yes the deadliest terrorist attack I. Canadian history was committed by sikh extremists!
They did not go killing Quebecois and screaming Allan alkbar and and did not favour sharia laws and treated woman better then how Muslim treated woman rights !

Still Sikh did not kill any Quebecois !!!

Canada Supreme Court law already ruled on Quebec secession it called the clarity law! Passed by the Federal Liberal government! The Quebec goverment must ask a clear question on secession from Canada a majority is sufficient enough! They did not specific 51% is good enough or not good enough! Only a majority in favour and a clear question is good enough for secession from Canada!
Right of minority already decided ... Please see bill 101 French language law! See nonwithstanding clauses!

Can you provide examples?

Life under sharia, in Canada?

Margaret Wente

Homa Arjomand knows what it's like to live under sharia law. In Iran, she endured it until someone tipped her off that she was about to be arrested and imprisoned. Many of her activist friends had already been tried and executed. She, her husband and two small children (the youngest was barely one) escaped on a gruelling trip by horseback through the mountains. That was in 1989.

Today, she lives in a suburb northeast of Toronto. Her job is helping immigrant Muslim women in distress. And now she is battling the arrival of sharia law in

Canada.

"We must separate religion from the state," she says emotionally. "We're living in Canada. We want Canadian secular law."

Sharia law in Canada? Yes. The province of Ontario has authorized the use of sharia law in civil arbitrations, if both parties consent. The arbitrations will deal with such matters as property, marriage, divorce, custody and inheritance. The arbitrators can be imams, Muslim elders or lawyers. In theory, their decisions aren't supposed to conflict with Canadian civil law. But because there is no third-party oversight, and no duty to report decisions, no outsider will ever know if they do. These decisions can be appealed to the regular courts. But for Muslim women, the pressures to abide by the precepts of sharia are overwhelming. To reject sharia is, quite simply, to be a bad Muslim.

Ms. Arjomand's cellphone is constantly ringing -- with calls of support, or calls for help, or updates on various crises. A client of hers has just that day died of cancer, leaving behind a nine-year-old daughter. The husband was brutally abusive, and now the dead woman's family is terrified that he's going to take the daughter, who was born in Canada, and go back to Iran. Ms. Arjomand has been trying to get Children's Aid to intervene.

In the burgeoning Muslim communities around Toronto, it's customary to settle family disputes internally, by appealing to an imam or an older person in the family. "I have a client from Pakistan who works for a bank," Ms. Arjomand tells me. "She's educated. She used to give all her money to her husband. She had to beg him for money to buy a cup of coffee. Then she decided to keep $50 a month for herself, but he said no."

They took the matter to an uncle, who decreed that because the wife had not been obedient, her husband could stop sleeping with her. (This is a traditional penalty for disobedient wives.) He could also acquire a temporary wife to take care of his sexual needs, which he proceeded to do. Now the woman wants a separation. She's fighting for custody of the children, which, according to sharia, belong to the father.

The law permitting a sharia court was passed in 1991, when Ontario sought to streamline the overloaded court system (and save money) by diverting certain civil cases to arbitration, including arbitration conducted on religious principles. Jewish courts have operated in the province this way for many years. "People can agree to resolve disputes in any way acceptable," said Brendan Crawley, a spokesman for the Ontario attorney-general. "If they decide to resolve disputes using principles of sharia and using an imam as an arbitrator, that is perfectly acceptable under the arbitration act."

Promoters of Islamic law in Canada have been working toward this goal for years. Last fall, they created the Islamic Institute of Civil Justice, which has already chosen arbitrators who have undergone training in sharia and Canadian civil law. The driving force behind the court is a lawyer and scholar named Syed Mumtaz Ali, who was quoted last week saying "to be a good Muslim," all Muslims must use these sharia courts.

Agreed on the women's rights issue,... but some like to treat women as cattle,.... that's not the Canadian way,... well so far anyway.

And there was already an attempt to introduce sharia law in Ontario.

Even if sharia law was not on the books,... one would have to be extremely naive to think that it is not already practised in Canada.
With the consequences of not following, ranges for acid baths, to death.

Please quote the sections of the law that protect women's rights. If you can't find the words, surely you can find an informed commentator who supports your view and can show how the law does what you say.

In fact women's rights were protected already, and this law just robbed them — and all other Quebeckers — of the right to decide for themselves.

The only time a Quebecois was killed by an extremist Muslim terrorist few years ago, it was committed by another white Quebecois who converted to radical Islam and not even an immigrant. There are more Muslims in Quebec who were killed by the white supremacist terrorist Quebecois Alexandre Bissonnette.

Bottom line , Muslim terrorist killed French people in France and Quebcois see France as their brother!
They don't want the same shit happening in France to come into Quebec!!
Just like Donald trump don't want a Muslim beach head to established in USA !!
It all about perception!! And it all about safety!! It all about protecting your own kind or the majority of the segment of the population!

That'd be the France where the police forced a modestly dressed woman on a beach to strip to a bikini they approved of? How was that law and those police protecting her rights?

Some woman ... Like this woman who don't care about woman's rights they prefer to be victims and they prefer to be brainwashed into believing sharia law! Or some woman also are just plain evil they like sharia law! They are evil people ..
Just like they are evil people / evil woman who kill and rape ( example Paula Homeka)
they believed are born to serve man! Let the man decided everything!!
This law is to help the other woman who cannot fight and afraid of the controlling religious husband
who practices sharia law!
Passing this type of law like the Quebec bill 62 send a message that the state are protecting her right is to fight back and prevent midieval practice like sharia law from practicing in western society! It all about perception!

Nonsense. It doesn't make sense and it has nothing to do with Bill 62.
Read the law, it's easy to find and very short.

Yep,... I remember last winter I had a long conversations with a "garbage truck workers".....
Yet they, police officers, etc. would be included the way the law is written. If they are somehow exempt then it completely undermines the legal claims that this is about public service and not simply targeting Islam.

(though if the law also includes banning those massive hipster beards it may have positives)

I have to agree with this statement... IMO the muslim religion treats their woman as property and if they do not do as their told or what is expected of them they are killed.
For example : the teenage girl in Mississauga who was killed by her father for not wearing the hijab .

A girl went to school and took off her hijab - she had told her father before she didn't want to wear it because she wanted to fit in and learn about the Canadian culture while experiencing our customs and traditions and he told her she had to wear it or their would be consequences.
...
And as you admit, for most Muslim women in Canada it is a choice (teens getting into arguments with parents is hardly a Muslim only thing). We already have laws protecting a woman's right to choose her attire and laws prosecuting those who interfere with that right. Denying women choice is a silly way to allow them choice.

Even worse in my mind, those women who believe that a hijab is important will simply stop going out in public meaning that they will not have the chance to integrate and interact with others.
