A driver of a Lincoln decides to park his car in the left 'fast' lane of the QEW after getting into an accident at 3:45 in the AM.
Of course he gets rear ended by a BMW which then bounces sideways into the right lanes where it is clobbered by a passing tractor trailer killing a woman passenger in the BMW.
I hope Lincoln driver doesn't beat his careless driving charge. That is just some kind of completely insane to park your car in a live lane of a fast highway.
Highway closed for over 6 hours too.

Other news agencies are reporting the Lincoln was an airport limo service car. The driver likely will loose his taxi license too. Not that it is any consolation though to the family of the BMW passenger suffering the tragedy of his decision.

What the hell? Did the guy fall asleep or something? How do you rear end someone at 3:45 am? It sounds like he managed to collect everyone on the road at the time....

I wonder if the Altima was refusing to move over for the Lincoln, prompting the Lincoln to tailgate, prompting the Altima to "black cat" him, causing the Lincoln to rear-end the Altima and take it out. I hope that's what happened. It would send a message that no matter how "in the right" you think you are, you should never escalate things while driving. Innocent parties can get hurt, or in this case die.

Anyway, details are certainly needed here.

The BMW is driving carelessly as the Lincoln was stopped

I would think the truck driver is clear but not with his company as he was not practising defensive driving

The Lincoln should be charged with something as well

Everyone behaved badly except the passenger that was killed provided she had her seatbelt on:(

True, I hope details emerge soon, but there usually isn't a shortage of lane choice at 3:45 in the morning, if the Altima was refusing to move over, he could have changed lanes and passed, instead rear ending the car in front and ditching it. Then to park in the left lane on a highway notorious for fast speeds absolutely defies common sense! If anything, I'm led to believe that he fell asleep, hit the car in front, woke up, freaked out, and stopped in the left lane.

IMO, because of the poor choice in his parking spot, he should face manslaughter charges for the BMW passenger who died.

Our roads have been a "kill zone" lately. There was the British couple who left their car on the 407 to inspect a flat tire and got mowed down. Earlier to-day a cube truck driver died when his vehicle hit a dump truck. Apparently an air ambulance was called but none was available. That 33 year old woman who was hit by a car while in a bus shelter a couple of days ago died from her injuries.

thoughts go out to the family of those killed... A driver would have to be speeding or half asleep to slam into a car stopped ahead of you. Don't assume that because its a fast lane, you don't have to look ahead for cars. Also the driver of the Lincoln would have to be crazy and suicidal to stop in the fast lane without having their emergency blinkers on.

I am floored by the idiots who seem to think that when they get in a car accident that they now have carte-blanche rights and protection to wander around on the road. They walk and stand around as if there are no cars that could run them over!

The ones involved in minor rear-end fender benders are especially laughable protecting and preserving the "crime scene" as if Gil Grissom of CSI is going to arrive shortly! MOVE YOUR FUCKING CARS ASSHOLES! The cops do not care, you are holding up traffic and you are in danger of NOW getting run over!!!!

Take your pics then move your asses and your cars as far off the road as possible!!!
True... getting into an accident is probably not as dangerous as stopping the car after an accident in the highway lanes, then getting out of the car to check.

Did anyone hear the news about two days ago, where a car got into a minor accident first in the highway? Two of the passengers in that vehicle, who were visiting Toronto from another country, decided to get out of the car and stand around but got hit and killed by a tractor trailor who couldn't stop before the parked vehicle.

Anytime you get into an accident, never, ever come out and stand behind or in front of your vehicle.. Stay in your car until the police arrives or move to the side of the road if possible.

See, that's one thing I don't understand. At 3:45am, your options for lane choice are pretty open. So I'd have to guess that either the Lincoln came to a stop somewhat sideways in the lane, and hence wasn't very visible to traffic behind it or that the driver of the BMW merely mashed the brakes and prayed rather than taking evasive action.

In his/her defense, it takes a long time to go from 120/130 km/h to 0, especially when you don't understand what you're seeing for a second or two. How common is a car stopped in the fast lane at 3:45 in the morning? I wonder if maybe the Lincoln driver didn't have his emergency lights on either....

I bet the Lincoln was black too....

true... really tragic. Just gotta remember to be aware and not distracted on the road at all times. A single mistake where one takes their guard down could cost them their lives. Life is short. Enjoy every moment. Never know what will happen the next time you step out the door.

Assuming the Lincoln town car was not "parked", it had rear ended the Altima and stopped in the fast lane. When cars are in an accident, the gas pump can be tripped off, so the engine will not run.

I'm on the road a lot and in that time I've been put into three very dangerous situations by idiotic drivers. Each time it fell to me to get out of it.

As rare as these occurences are, they do happen. If you allow yourself to feel secure on the road and lose your focus, these instances could very well come up and bite you. Hard. Don't depend on the other people on the road to not put you in a bad situation. Always watch for it.

till all the facts are known it is all speculation on our part, but kbear is correct even in minor accidents the fuel pump can trip and the car will not start.
the tractor trailor driver must feel pretty sick too he probably had no chance to stop or move over and he killed the poor woman
there are way too many poor drivers making poor decisions in and around toronto!!!
