This could be like the CFL. The players could hold a second job during the season like Russ Jackson (and others did) did in the CFL.

I still think the best path is for the women to get a scholarship to a university so they will have a degree or two to fall back on. A friend said her daughter was offered a full athletic scholarship to the University of Minnesota.

Question: Has anyone seen or want to see Sarah Nurse naked?

It’s always seemed to me that both the women’s hockey and basketball leagues here should follow the soccer model in Europe, where the teams are wholly owned and branded under the same club banner as the men’s teams.

You have an established marketable brand, it strengthens fan loyalty and taps into existing rivalries.

IIRC, when CFLer Jon Cornish won the Lou Marsh trophy the FAN590 called him for an interview. However, he was busy working at a bank in the off season and he had to call them back after work.

This thread is a perfect example of how much people are going to give a shit about this league. If it weren't the fact the guy that who owns the dogers is pumping millions into it, it wouldn't make it past one year.

I watched parts of the Toronto vs NYC game. Quality of play is pretty good.

I still want to see Sarah Nurse naked.

I watched the Toronto/Rangers opening game....it was painful.

The level of play is slightly below Bantam boys hockey. I have two nephews who have played Bantam hockey. When I watch them play it is somewhat entertaining because of the fact that they are my nephews. Not great hockey.

This PWHL will survive as long as the owners of the teams are willing to lose money for a good cause. We will see how long that takes.

The media is all on board, CBC, CTV, Global, The Score, they have all jumped on board writing articles about the league and the early results.

They media reported the Toronto opener was a sellout, but refused to say how many people were there.

The media are all in on selling the game, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I wish the league well.

But if you're paying players $80,000 year, you better have owners willing to lose money forever and corporate sponsors willing to donate to a cause.

How long will it last? As long as the team owners are willing to lose money for a good cause.

I don’t think anybody involved in the PWHL said it’s going to be awesome hockey watch…they are just giving women a chance to play in a league that is probably the highest caliber league they’ve ever had.

So give them a break..l

Yes, and as some talking heads have been saying:

It gives young girls an inspiration to continue playing hockey to see people who look like them playing the game into their 20's and 30's.

What type of break should we give them?

Just saying...

Just saying what?

That the 18 month hype for the league translated into sold out first games? I expect half, if not he entire, season to be sold out.....and then after that it will fall off, and they will doing promotions to actually give the tickets away to keep their arena concessionnaires happy.

Men will not watch the women's game. Women will watch it for a while, then get bored.

As I said before, this league will last as long as the owners and the advertisers are willing to lose money for a good cause.
