If you want a controlled, safe environment..... Blackbeards, just outside Puerto Plata.
Want the Wild West frontier, Sosua, town further our from Puerto Plata in the other direction.
I'll be doing my 11th trip to Sosua in May. 2K is ridiculous for the DR. The girls probably get about $100.
Lots of info on both on the web.

Many years ago(ten or more)I stayed at the New Garden hotel in Sousa. Not too expensive and they had a couple of girls at the small bar. Hotel seems to be for single men.
But a lot of beggars(or should I say sellers of junk)just outside the hotel across the street.
Wonder what it is like there now.
