do you think that concept would work? they would cost a dollar or two to use
when you're absolutely about to explode and it's late (or early) and there are no accessible washrooms around, I'm sure more than a few people wouldn't mind shelling a bit of money to avoid an accident
obviously I'm talking about #2

the washrooms would be well maintained of course too

yep
though the ones I went to in europe weren't "automated", there was always some old man there with a tin
I'm sure it would make more sense here to have them coin operated (the stalls at least)

if a machine can take a credit card for $1.50 parking, I'm sure they could devise a cost effective system for a whole washroom/toilet scheme

also should make it to accept air miles card too, i would be flying for free every year.

they have these all over england. I never saw a person with a tin collecting money...but a lot of them go unused to be honest. You see people leaving the pubs and pissing in the bushes or sidewalk at night rather than using the public toilets. I dont think this would work...the rent you pay to have it on the side-walk, the water bill, outside maintenance and keeping the inside sanitary...how long will each be in use before it turned a profit?

ps. if you really have to go and cant wait...just find a tims or McD (they are all over the GTA) and have bathrooms that are decent I guess - never used a public washroom so I cant really speak much and they are free.

the main issue I'm talking about is if you're downtown at like 2 am
there are no mcdonalds around that are open

there is no reasonable place to take a dump when you're in the core at an odd time

Well if you wanna open up a porto-potty downtown and work the nightshift, be my guest.

I wish you success in your new line of work

haha, I don't think you're reading the thread fully dude
first you skipped the part of the thread where I specified downtown at odd times, now you seemed to have skipped over the part where I made it clear that it would be automated

LOL....maybe I should read threads more thoroughly.

Its not a bad idea and it may work, but you'd have to rent space from either the City or from a private ownership.
You cant just drop this thing on a street corner and start your toilet business.

I cant see it being a huge moneymaker though and you also have vandalism to worry about.
Bunch of drunk guys seeing if they cant tip the thing over in the middle of the night.

i think its a good idea.. they could put a few in every park in the downtown core. but you'll probably have a bum problem during winters... same reason why a lot of banks dont have atm access at night. i'm sure many terbites know the pain of not being able to find an atm during those times.. ;)
but yeah, pay automated public toilets is a good idea.

the ones in the UK are built like tanks. But you know waht, people dont pay to use them...so waht is the city planning on doing? Thats right...they will be free soon.

goodluck with your venture. Tims are open 24hrs and if a person suffers from incontinence then maybe they should be at home. I dont see that the number of people desperate for a toilet will be greater than your purcase of this unit, the rent on the sidewalk, the fitting, the maintenance and upkeep.

The ones in the UK have lots of ad space sold on the outside. So that gets you some revenue. But face it, you need to spend a lot of capital before anything will work...you buy one or two and place them in the club district...that is revenue that is only going to come in the night from a crowd that is more large on weekends...so what happens the rest of the time? They sit idle and get you how much money?

This has been done in larger cities and has not worked. I dont see this working in Toronto at all.

They are in Paris. Think it was 1.75Euro. It was paradise for my travel companion as fastfood toilets are a dump from overuse.

Anyone see those portable open-air pee-stalls outside of bars in Picadilly circus? We can use those in out club district.

The new city of Tor garbage cans are funded by Advertising $. City of Tor doesn't pay a cent.

Between a rock and a hard place
I remember pay toilets in the 60s and 70s. I just used to crawl under the stall door. Of course I was a little kid at the time.

I been over to europe and south america and the caribbean. ( BTW people actually do #2 on the street of south america ) The only place in the world where it was worth paying was in Lucern, Swirterland. THe bathrooms/cublicles/portables where immaculates. Then again I did arrive after clean up time. This will make the street smell even worse because nobody will pay to piss for a dollar. I been to Paris and it stunk outside the train stations because of piss. Not to mention the dog poos on the sidewalks also.
