Of course the political cost is too high. It's only Liberal scare mongering loonies like nottyboi that make such stupid statements.

Why? Where is the political cost going to come from? Which substantial segment of the Canadian population will give a crap. I can only see Quebec having the guts to say anything. It will be a nice fat low cost carrot Harper can hand his constituency.. .while continuing to avoid the abortion issue like the plague.

If the federal govt. uses that clause it will be big news. BIG. Probably the biggest news story in Canadian politics this year. The Canadian population will give a substantial crap.

What? Prostitution would decrease? What kind of win is that? That would suck!!
Sorry I should have put a  with it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Sweden#Research_on_prostitution_in_Sweden
The most visible effect of the Swedish law according to the data presented seemed to be that since the law came into effect less men reported purchasing sex and sex workers were less visible. Social workers reported a gradual decline in involvement over a ten year period and more use of technology. It was unclear how much of this change could be attributed to the law itself.

I consider myself conservative and voted for them, but am pro prostitution. I suspect the majority of conservatives both inside and outside the government really have no axe to grind here and would be just as happy for the issue to go away.
There are fringe Conservatives and fringe Liberals but the vast majority of the people in Canada are at neither extreme. It is kind of tiring hearing all the squawking about how terrible small c conservatives are. You liberals have just as many extremists in your camp as the conservatives. Maybe you should clean up your own back yard first.
I expect 5 years from now, the field of play as it concerns prostitution will look strangely familiar.

There was no change in the rules there at all. It was Harper that suspended parliament in order to avoid a confidence vote that changed the rules. The Libs, NDP and Bloc had the seats and the votes.
Which was part of the rules of parliament.

Sweden is the ultimate example of a nightmare for the average Terbite, the same section of their criminal code that a guy who gets caught for picking up a prostitute, the guy who beats his wife is also covered. You legalize, tax and control it because it will never ever ever go away.

Everyone would be better off if they just don't raise the issue at all. Given Harper's majority and his whole "family values" schtick, he's more likely to enact legislation outlawing it entirely. That will pay well to his solid religious base in Jesus-land.

Typical <insert predictable derogatory term> with no sense of humour losing his argument!
No ones arguments in this thread will be won or lost until we see the outcome... unless you are Stephan Harper posting under your TERB handle.

That just isn't going to happen and you know it as well as the rest of us Captain.
