When you consider the pros and cons of quitting this hobby, one may realize the pros outweigh the cons. For example:
Cons

Our hobby is great fun and a great stress reliever. You don't have to put up with the grief associated with bad relationships. According to some posts on this board about the stock market, the world is coming to an end: we might as well enjoy ourselves.

Pros

Our hobby is expensive. If you become addicted, you won't have any money for your retirement. You might catch a STD even if you practise safe sex. You may find yourself in trouble with the law and pardons are never given for sexual offences(you might get lucky and only deal with the embarrassment of John School). You might be blackmailed or find yourself on the web( some MPs videotape customers). Some SPs are rude and many are anti-male. You might be cheated or robbed by a SP. You might read a wonderful ad about a SP but when go see the girl, she turns out to be a hag with National Geographic breasts. In strip clubs you have to put up with tobacco smoke which is very dangerous. If your wife/girlfriend finds out, she may leave you, take the kids, the house, and all your money.

I was actually enjoying this hobby until I started weighing the pros and cons. Now I am getting rather depressed...Maybe there is someone out there with a superb analytical mind who can come up with a list in which the cons vastly outnumber the pros of quitting this hobby.

Well Said

Sheik has just produced a brilliant analysis. I think I'll stick with this hobby.

Oh I forgot one obvious risk:

-- disease, and fear of disease

No matter how much precaution you take, being in such close physical contact with so many people (even more so for the escort) is likely to create a vector for disease. Not just for STD's, but ordinary contagious diseases as well as STD's.

Of course there is more or less risk of AIDS/HIV depending on what you do, and even if you never get these diseases, there will likely be a cost of stress and worry at some point--accidents happen.
of course - the other view is that most of the sp's are extremely vigilant and take all the necessary precautions to keep themselves healthy and std free ... and are probably 'safer' than girls that you meet in a bar for a one night stand.

SPs safer

I've read several articles that basically stated the same thing. A pro who is carefull is much less likely to infect you than unprotected sex with a girlfriend - especially if it is a relatively new relationship, give the length of time that HIV takes to manifest or how Herpes hides in its ' hidden' stages.

I agree that having sex with lots of bar girls and having sex with lots of SP's is probably about the same risk, the SP might even be safer. Either way there's a pretty high risk that you will catch a disease if you have sex with a lot of people who have sex with a lot of people.

There's nothing wrong with risk taking, so long as it is informed. Some people like to sky dive, and they might die from doing that. So long as they know that, if that's what they want to do--more power to them. The same goes for the "hobby"--don't fool yourself, there is a fairly high risk of catching a serious disease from it. So long as you know what you're getting in to, it's your choice.

Someone asked what were the pro's and con's of the hobby and it's a fact that risk of disease is a con.

Most people would not start having lots of sex with bar girls if they stopped calling SP's. Most people would then wind up just having sex with one or two "ordinary" girlfriends, or their wife. They would have sex with fewer people, and their partners would not be so promiscuous. So their risk would be much less.

i don't want to hijack this thread entirely ... but this kind of thinking drives me crazy ...

The same goes for the "hobby"--don't fool yourself, there is a fairly high risk of catching a serious disease from it.

yes ... i have a vested interest in promoting our industry as conscientious individuals ...

but i cannot stress enough ~ for the most part, unless you are engaging in the services of a drug addicted street worker who injects herself with drugs ... or are seeing sp's for bbfs ... it is an exaggeration to make this statement.

ask any hobbiest who has been around ...

for crying out loud. i have been in the industry for almost half my life and have remained std free ...

This thread was more interesting before it got infectious-disease obsessed. Wear condoms for risky stuff, read the literature as it keeps evolving on STDs, and then enjoy your sexual play with multiple partners. It's expensive to see escorts, but at least in Canada it's not illegal. This is a great country when it comes to sexuality: people here don't talk loudly about their sexual exploits, they just do them.
