Problem opening JPG files

drrogers

DrRogers has left the Bld
When I click on JPG files in explorer to open i get the error .jpg is not a valid win32 application. The jpg files are set to open with FastStone.exe I have tried opening with other picture viewers but the only thing that works is either photoshop CS3 or photosop elements. This is a recent problem since I reinstalled my windows XP.

Help Please - I have run an antivirus scan in case the other programes were infected - all is clean.

control panel > folder options > file types > find .jpg and change the program that opens the file to picture viewer or something

try this

http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php

see if you can see it there.
or just go to
sourceforge.net

search for a graphic viewer for win then try that.
if it all fails try mspaint/msviewer what ever it is called.

if that fails the file may be corrupted.

You can also try Compupic. It never gives me problems and opens everything.

The files are not corrupt - they open with Photoshop CS3 and with Photoshop Elements 6 No problem. I have tried a number of other programs including those suggested. The problem must be something to do with the files not being recognized as either JPG or JPEG but I cannot find anything on fixing it. I am thinking that when I reinstalled Windows XP a plug in or some such thing was not reinstalled - Any Uber Geeks out there that can help me - It is getting really annoying.
