problem accessing mirage website

Everytime I go on the Mirage website my computer shuts down. It's something about the Microsoft Dr. Watson 32 debugger:confused: whatever that means? My computer is fine with every other website. The mirage website wants me to add on something with regards to apple but I am afraid to do it.

Any comments would be appreciated. I guess it's my loss that I will have to stay off the mirage website for now--lol.

Squash, Apple is a fairly reliable site so should not be at any risk downloading any thing from the site to install on your browser. You can also try using and installing the safari browser. It is also by Apple and should come pre-configured with what you need to view the mirage web site.

I've never had any problem with Mirage's website, nor have I ever had the website request that I install any plug-ins, nor can I see there being any "rich media" that would need a plug-in. And - being somewhat paranoid - I have my system fairly well armored, so if they tried, my system would most likely yell about it.

I'm using Firefox 3.0 to access it as we speak with no grief.

It may be that there's some 3rd party software on your system interferring with your browsing experience. You might check for installed toolbars on your browser.

Which browser, and which specific URL are you trying to load? It would also be useful to know what the system is trying to fetch from the apple site.

It occurs to me as I type that Mirage does have Javascript on its page to disable right-click image saving, and to switch between images on lady's biography pages. It might be that your system doesn't like the Javascript as is trying to launch the debugger for that (and maybe the debugger wants something from apple?). I have something similar happen to me on the system with MS Visual Studio when a program or website Javascript has a problem.

If only Mirage's webmistress was on TERB and reading threads ... *coughs discretely* ...

in my pants, where there's a party
Most likely, it's telling you that a Java applet is missing.

Do your windows updates and it should be fine: At the top of your Internet Explorer window, click Tools, then Windows Update.

When the page loads, go to Custom and download everything it offers

Alternately, your DNS cache might be full.
Go to Start--->run
type "cmd" (without quotes)
in the black window, type: netsh interface ip reset log.txt
hit ENTER
type: ipconfig /flushdns
hit ENTER

after you get the confirmation message, close the window and re-open IE and try accessing the site

or

Use Firefox :D

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the responses:) .

I am a beginner with computers so please be patient--lol.

When I go onto the Mirage website a phrase appears. It says " Quick Time check scriptable object" From Apple computer inc (unverified publisher) if you trust the website and add-on click here.

I'm running IE 7. Then my computer shuts down after going onto the Mirage website and a microsoft icon appears saying that Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. I hope this made sense.

Should I trust this website and download the add-on? Any additional comments would be much appreciated.

If you search Google for the term "Quicktime check scriptable object" you'll find references to it as an ActiveX control - adding those is often tricky and not always the safest idea.

I went back to Mirage's website with IE7 and got the same message as you are describing.

Have you added the control/object yet? If so, this might be what is causing IE to crash, as I have not installed it and it isn't crashing on my system (although the crash could be caused by a myriad of other things, or combination of things, on your system which aren't present on mine).

Accessing the website through Firefox 3.0 (downloadable here) causes no problems what-so-ever.

I'd recommend the following steps:
  1. Check to see if the control is installed: From the menu bar at the top of the screen, follow Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons. On the Show drop-down box, select Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer. Scan the list to see if the Quicktime check scriptable object is present.
  2. Disable it, if it is present: Select the Quicktimecheck scriptable object from the list. At the bottom of the control box there should be two radio buttons for Enable and Disable. Select Disable and click the OK button.
  3. Do a thorough system check: Run your antiviral, and and Adware/Malware software and make sure you haven't contract some software nastiness from some website already.
  4. If you're running Vita, run IE in "no ad-ons" mode: Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). If you're running another version of Windows, it might still be possible to launch IE in this mode, but I don't know the precise location of the icon for this in other versions, sorry. Check out the Mirage website and see if IE is still causing an IE crash. If so, it isn't the ad-ons, you're just having one of those "fun" IE glitches.
  5. Download and use Firefox 3.0: If it isn't the ad-on, then it appears that somehow your version of IE has gone wonky. It is possible it might recover during one of the Windows updates, so if you really prefer IE keep checking back, or just use Firefox for those sites that give IE fits.

Hope that helps :)

It was present so I disabled quicktime check scriptable object just like you said. I went to Mirage website and the same thing happened again. My computer is running on windows xp and ie 7. If i download Firefox would that interfere with ie7?

I ran a norton anti-virus scan last night and everything was ok. Thanks for your help. I am afraid to delve into this too much furthur as I really don't know what I'm doing with Computers:) .

I'm not suggesting that Firefox would allow you to use IE7 effectively now.

I'm suggesting you use Firefox 3.0 instead of IE7 :)

However, Firefox should not interfere with IE7 except that the two of them might keep prompting you "do you want me to be your default web browser?" if you keep flipping back and forth (although I think you can tell Firefox to stop asking the question by ticking a check box option on the dialog box when it asks you).

Crixus, about a year ago, a friend of mine who actually knows something about computers:) downloaded Firefox on to my pc. FF for some reason couldn't properly access a lot of the banking and business sites that are very important to me. I called tech support at some of these sites and they said said that FF at the present time isn't properly supported on their site?

Therefore, I got rid of FF and went back to IE. I guess when I feel like going to an sp I'll have to forget about the mirage ladies for now---lol. Crixus, thanks again for all your help.

"About a year ago" is a long time in software and website development.

Since FF is a free download, I'd recommend trying it out again to see if you can access the sites you need to. Since FF just released version 3.0, odds are good it will work for you.

Alternatively, you can use FF and IE both, flipping back and forth between the two at need.

No matter how it works out, good luck :)

I have never had any problems accessing Mirage's site using FireFox.
The beauty of using FireFox is that you can set it up to delete your private data, search and surf history, every time you close your browser.
