Has anybody ever used this?
I'm thinking of using it for my upcoming (hopefully soon) trip to Montreal.
Any other good website to find cheap hotels in Montreal?
Thanks.

Priceline rocks. Hotwire too (same general concept). Yes I have used it. When used in conjunction with biddingfortravel.com, you can save a fortune. Biddingfortravel will help you determine which specific hotel you are likely to get when you bid on Priceline. I've used it, its not a scam, it works. That is actually the concept behind copycraigs.com, who advertises frequently on this site. He will navigate the complex waters of Priceline, for a small fee. Or you can take an hour to read up on how it works (on biddingfortravel) and do it yourself. I have used it to obtain ridiculously low rates in a number of Canadian and US cities. It helps to have more than one credit card, by the way, in case your bid is not accepted (you have to wait 24 hours to re-bid). Enjoy.

There is a thread on merb on using priceline for hotels in montreal. If you are using priceline for that city, the last few pages of that thread would be a must read. Unless things have changed recently, you don't need to join merb to read threads.

Paid $95 for a Montreal hotel room last year that was listed at over $200.

I have used Hotwire a couple of times in Markham. Had no luck with Priceline.

Visit betterbidding.com. The mods/users there can either walk you through a bid process or you can probably form a bidding process on your own by reading a few posts of the city you are interested in booking a hotel. Good luck!

I've only utilized it for hotels, simon482. I don't think the markup is as high on flights so I imagine one would not get as good a deal on flights.

On priceline you can't be assured of a particular hotel although you can detect some trends. If you're looking for a particular hotel then it may be advisable to use hotwire. Pair hotwire with betterbidding.com and you can usually be assured of what hotel you are booking before you book it.

I just booked through priceline and betterbidding.com and managed to save some dollars. However, I noticed a couple of things that are not immediately obvious.

In addition to the hotel rate, they add on fees and taxes. When the hotel quotes you a price, they add on taxes as well, but I noticed the fees and taxes are about $20 more per night than when I contacted a hotel directly. So I guess this additional fee goes to priceline.

Even though I am in Toronto and I was booking a hotel in another Canadian city, the fees they quote on priceline are in US$. They do not make that clear until you bid on a room and the bid is accepted. Fortunately, the exchange rate doesn't make a huge difference at this time. But I guess that adds an additional 5% or so.

So I did save somewhere around $60 or $70, but I didn't get the hotel I wanted and I didn't save quite what I expected when I put in the bid. I noticed later that with hotwire and betterbidding you can know the name of the hotel before you book.
