Hello everyone

I am a girl from the Westcoast looking to move out to Toronto. What I have found with BC is that the job market is tough, so now I am weighing my options in possibly Ontario. Now is here where you readers can help... If you know of any entry-level jobs available, please PM me. Becoming an SP does not interest me at this time as I wish to put my other skills to good use.

I am educated in purchasing, logistics, operations management and quality assurance. I am currently taking courses in child welfare. I have also started work on CPIM certification. That will only matter to those that know what it is. I know that my education is more suited to something in an industrial area but I am only interested in downtown as it is what I am familiar with.

At this point I do not mind work as a receptionist/assistant....as long as it will pay my bills. If you know of anything, or could use an analytical mind at your firm, PM me. I am not going to directly respond to a person with my personal information unless you can in some way prove that what you are looking for is legitimate.

You might get lucky, but I somehow doubt it. Perhaps someone can steer you towards a possible job, but I really doubt someone is going to say, "hey, we need someone just like you in my office." That will kinda blow his anonymity. Its not a good idea to hire someone in the office who knows about one's preferences in this hobby.

Why post on TERB, surely there are better sites to post your request. Shows poor judgement, therefore I would not offer you a job.

How can you say such a thing? There is a ton of knowlegeable people on the Board from all walks of life. The only poor judgment is why would someone leave a "tough job market" in B.C. for a tougher job market in Toronto?

I chose to post on Terb about this topic because it is quite obvious from the posting variety, and having chatted with some people prior that all of you are from very diverse walks of life. Some of you may be executives, while others may be a dishwasher at a restaurant. Regardless, all of you potentially have some valuable input for myself.

The BC job market is tough. Browsing through job boards for the Toronto area, it becomes very obvious that per capita there are more jobs in Ontario than there are in BC. In terms of percentage it does not seem as if as many people got laid off or permanently lost there jobs in BC in comparison to Ontario, but organizations that would typically be hiring around this time of year have been very slow to welcome in new employees. I am exploring my options here in BC as well as Ontario.

I am not asking that any of you directly share info on who you are and as a result identify who you are. If you know of a company that would be hiring someone in an entry-level position, just e-mail me their website. I will be able to find the job posting if it is listed.

As always, be careful with CL. Lots of fakes in the job section as well. Another option is to go with a staffing agency. I know many just tells you what you want to hear, but at least it's something, and can get your foot in the door. Take it as it comes, sometime it turns out good, and if not, you can easily tell them to find something else

I second this comment. There has always been alot of jobs listed here on various websites, but the market is saturated with people looking. Alot of the times company's post jobs but already have someone internally lined up for the job. Good Luck is all I can say!!! If you get a job (decent) let me know as well.

Huh? Are you saying employers have to publically post opportunities even though they have no intention of hiring outside their organization and this is a human rights requirement?

I don't know about human rights, but there are often collective agreements requiring new or vacant positions to be posted and not just handed to the management-preferred candidate.

It's a waste of everyone's time - you can always adjust the job description so that only your choice is qualified, find reasons to dump competitor's resumes, or interpret the results of interviews to get the result you desire.

Not sure about posting the job vacancy externally but our HR people said we definitely must post internally before any formal offer can be extended to anyone.

I'm pretty sure it would be posted internally only. Let's be clear on the HR Dept - their sole responsibility is the limitation of liability to the employer, as such, at the end of the day they have no interest in the rights of the employee.

If you can contact some head hunters in your desired field of work, that could help greatly. Last time I needed a job, that's what I did, worked out pretty well. They only get paid if you get a job. Though they take a chunk of your money but hey... a job is a job in this market.

The company where one of my friends work is looking for a "Diversity Director". Anybody interested? Sound like an easy make work job to satisfy the politically correct mob.
