My Visa statement claims so, its my responsibility they get the payments on time. I still didn't get a package from November of last year, I wonder if they swiped it.

  • Background: The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) had a strike action against Canada Post that began on November 15, 2024, and was suspended on December 17, 2024.
  • Potential Resumption: The CUPW has indicated that a strike may resume on May 22, 2025.
  • Location: This strike action and potential resumption would affect Canada Post operations across Canada.

MEMORANDUM
To: All Postal Workers
Subject: Yet Another Strike – How Original!

Well, here we go again. It seems like some traditions never die—like holiday delays, lost packages, and of course, postal worker strikes. How nostalgic! But let’s take a moment to reflect on the reality of the situation.

This isn’t 1998. The world has changed. People aren’t exactly huddling by their mailboxes in suspense, waiting for an overdue electric bill or the latest Sears catalog. (Spoiler alert: Sears isn’t even a thing anymore.) In case you haven't noticed, the postal service isn’t quite the pillar of society it used to be. Email, online bill pay, and private delivery companies have filled the gaps faster than you can say “tracking number unavailable.”

And yet, here you are, ready to walk out in protest, as if this will somehow turn back the clock to the good old days when everyone depended on snail mail. Let’s be honest—the best move you can make right now is to do what most have already figured out: keep your head down, ride this out, and enjoy the big, fat retirement check that was negotiated back when people still thought faxes were cutting-edge technology.

Of course, if you really believe this strike is going to bring sweeping changes and a glorious new era for postal workers, well, good luck with that. Meanwhile, we’ll be here, watching as the world keeps turning and adapting—without waiting on the mail.

Sincerely,

Angry Tax Payer.

All I ever get in the mail is junk. Any bills I get are all online and the only reason I gave a shit about the last strike was because it was during Christmas...if they go back on strike would anybody even give a shit?

I wonder if it will become a major issue on the campaign trail.
Considering the Feds had to "loan" $1 Billion to Canada Post, as it was going to run out of operating funds, it should be.

The whole business is broken; it needs drastic change; and the Union won't accept any change that erodes wages and benefits. The whole thing is a clown show.

What about credit card or license renewal? Some things still get mailed and have you no choice about that.

What license renewal?
How do you get those?
I discovered my d/l was expired when I went to use it as ID for a bank account.
I did not even get an email notification to renew.
Only nice rub is with all online it was $90 for 5 years worth of d/l.

My credit card I get online, along with gas and electric bills.
Water bill comes 4 times a year, and I can always estimate an amount, pay it online and not be too far off when the papers ultimately travels any postal disruption.

Two weeks ago I could even email in forms to lodge an insurance claim of filled in pdf forms the insurer sent me on the passing of my elderly mom. I thought was going to me a postal process for sure. I guess COVID did move some businesses and their processes to innovate in unexpected ways.

So far the only semi annual that still comes in the mail is my property taxes.
I am sure that an online solution to that will be created if the postal shananigans get into gear again.

The physical card. Those get mailed. You can't get the physical card online. Think a little bit.

Drivers license
Health cards
Credit cards
Ontario ID cards
Passports usually

The list goes on.

After the last postal strike, I was left waiting five weeks for my insurance papers to arrive, despite being assured that they had been mailed before the strike even began. The delay was not only inconvenient but also raised questions about how efficiently the system handled backlogs. It’s one thing to expect some disruption during a strike, but it’s another to realize that important documents can seemingly disappear into limbo for over a month, leaving customers in uncertainty.
The government will likely maintain some form of postal delivery for the foreseeable future, but advancements in automation and digital verification could drastically reduce the need for traditional mail services. If banks can process stacks of checks instantly through machines that read, catalog, and credit amounts electronically, there is no reason similar technology couldn’t be used to issue driver’s licenses, health cards, and other government documents. A streamlined system could send email notifications when a new card is ready, allowing recipients to verify their identity at a government office using facial recognition and other security measures. This technology already exists and is widely used in secure facilities and certain countries where it has helped reduce crime and identity theft. However, opposition remains, with some arguing that widespread facial recognition is an invasion of privacy. Despite these concerns, nations that have adopted the technology extensively have seen significant improvements in security and efficiency.
Perhaps your resistance to new technologies stems from financial reasons. When I was younger, I knew a guy who worked as a night watchman. He would sit in an office building all night just to ensure it wasn't broken into. When you think about it, that idea seems so outdated now.

You got to be kidding me the Postal Service going on strike again, say it ain’t so. I’ve complained to Canada Post about carriers walking over the lawn through the flowerbeds getting misdirected mail. And on top of that I get a package of flyers adverts that are 100% no good to me the reason why there over two weeks old the sale as long gone. So remind me what is a Postal Service for? Fire the whole lot of form and just have an office where you can pick it up not these postbox in subdivisions where they get vandalized and garbage. I have a sticker on my mailbox addressed only know flyers no adverts but I still get them. So what do I do, I save them all out I get about two months worth that’s about eight bundles plus the real estate agents garbage, and then when I take the dog for a walk I throw the whole lot right into the mailbox. If the carrier is too lazy to do his job I’m not the garbageman, returned to sender.

" addressed only know flyers " ? try changing that sticker to "no flyers"... if that fails call the local depot and complain to the supervisor.

As far as I'm concerned the postal strike has never really stopped. I'm lucky if I get a couple pieces of mail per week. Prior to the strike it was about 5 to 7 per week. For instance, I just received a cheque from a client who is located about an hour west of the GTA. They mailed it on March 5 and I didn't get it until last Friday 21st. Over 2 weeks to receive a piece of mail, unbelievable.
