A 53-year-old man is dead after he was shot in front of his home on a quiet residential street in Etobicoke early Friday morning.
Antonio Sergi was found in the driveway of a house on La Rush Drive near Scarlett Road and Eglinton Avenue at around 2:30 a.m.

He had sustained at least one gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced on scene, according to police.
No arrests have been made at this point.
Police say that a caller initially reported seeing a male, who was about six-feet tall and wearing dark-coloured clothing, running from the scene.
Police say they are unsure whether that person is a suspect in the shooting or was simply fleeing the gunfire.
Sergi was returning to his home at the time he was shot, police said.
A neighbour who did not wish to be identified told CTV News Toronto he heard a single gunshot, which sounded to him “like a hammer” striking the side of a wall.
Investigators said Friday afternoon that they believe the shooting was targeted.
A large perimeter has been set up on La Rush Drive as police investigate. The Toronto Police Service canine unit was also brought in to conduct a search of the neighbourhood early Friday morning, though it is not clear whether any evidence was uncovered during the course of that search.
Forensic officers are currently on scene.

It appears that the N'drangheta is attempting to gain a greater share of the Toronto market. Club Cosenza is members only.

The guy who died outside his home in Etobicoke doesn't live far from me but I did not know him or of him (I drive by that street on the way to work every day). From my circles at work, he was also known as "Tony Large". One of our guys said he met him at poker games back in the day. I was told he owed money to a ready mix firm too (reputable one - not Italian owned). Which means, if he had gambling debts or had a habit of owing money to others, maybe the violent-criminal creditors rubbed him out for non-payment of debts. I may be wrong, but I also heard from a family member that he got into some trouble years ago over marijuana. So it seems he had a lurid past or shady background.

BTW, is this related in any way to the earlier shooting involving the young woman who seems to have been at the wrong place at the wrong time (in the back seat of a SUV with a married man who may have been the intended target)?

That's Regina Road (not Region). West off Martingrove, south of Hwy 7.

The mafia wars have not started, the wars never ended. It is an ongoing war between the Calabria and Sicilian factions. There have been quieter times but now that the pie is getting smaller the factions are battling it out to be the dominant force.

^^^Comment of an ill informed racist sycophant ... who probably doesn't even know Antonio "Jelly" Borelli. The "italian" triggerman who missed his intended mafia gambling deadbeat and instead paralyzed Louise Russo in the California Sangwiches shooting.

Possible???

There's nothing possible about this, it is a fact.

This and gang retribution, has been going on here for a number of years. It appears to be escalating now.

Yes it does. I wonder if impending legislation regarding legalizing marijuana has anything to do with it?

The reasons for mob hits are as varied as the circumstances of each hit. And usually have specific personal reasons attached to each murder.
