Catholics: Approximately 1.39 billion adherents.

You do realize the various other sects are primarily a REJECTION of the Catholic version don't you?

However in the interests of clarity I will add there are about 1.7 billion Sunni Muslims. Making it still the largest in the world.
I don't know if you can group all Sunni as if that's the equivalent of Catholicism.
There are subdivisions there as well.

Not that important, though.
Thanks for specifying the numbers you were thinking of.

I’m confused. So seeing as he he didn’t see his shadow today, does that mean six more weeks of winter?

To be clear , Pope Francis was 90 years old, cant walk, barely talk, dementia , no energy, cant dress himself but one of the worlds most influential men in charge of an extremely rich powerful corporation stays in power because God chose him as the 'Vicar of Christ' to "Feed my lambs . . . Take care of my sheep."

According to Catholic reasoning, Peter the Prince of the Apostles, was the first pope, and fulfills the words of Jesus calling Peter the rock upon which Jesus will build His church and the Pope is in direct line to Peter.
There is noithing biblical about that believe, indeed a lot of Cathoilic beliefs are made up by the Vatican "thinking" about it

What I wonder is the Cardinals say God directs them to chose the Pope but how does that go down?

They prayed , no doubt, then WTF did God do? Where they using a Ouija board? Why
is using a Ouija any stranger than the method of how they do chose the Pope which is what?

I guess that is a little secret
Here’s how it

The Pope will be buried in white.

Then covered in Incense.

The the Cardinals meet.

Then - Holy Smoke

The Late Pope Francis chose a Camerlengo to direct the Conclave upon his death. In the Ralph Fiennes role is Irish-American Cardinal Kevin Farrell. He has a 20% chance of becoming Pope.

John Lithgow stole every scene he was in Conclave.

Not all appointments with one's family doctor requires an immediate
appointment. That doesn't mean unnecessary dealy of booking an
appointment is of no to little consequence.
It could be frustrating if you were hit by certain ailment
on Thursday/Friday which you want your family doctor to examine but
was unable to book an appointment until Monday or Tuesday because
the day Jesus was crucified and the day he rose from death warranted
designation of a long weekend for commemoration.

If you are healthy and in your youth you may not appreciate this. As
one gets old he is more likely to become more actively managed
by his family doctor. Often visits to a family doctor do not deal with
emergencies. An elderly would not likely go to visit ER because he wanted
the doctor to examine an recurring ailment that might require arrangement
for a MRI. More importantly it is sometimes up to the family doctor to
decide the patient is a case for the ER. A patient for instance may
feel a minor discomfort around the upper right side of the abdomen
which the doctor figures out to be a sign of imminent gall bladder attack.
In such case the patient will be sent to ER immediately.
Hope your dad got looked after somehow and is ok

And I agree about this Friday AND Monday holiday nonsense.

and furthermore, people seem to check out mentally on Thursday anyways. I had to check on a referral from a specialist who referred to a hospital department over confusion or even receiving the referral. Thursday at 11 AM when I called the hospital to try to figure it out, they said not to call back until Wednesday because Friday and Monday are holidays and Tuesday. They’ll just be getting back up to speed

And that’s for a time, sensitive cardiology issue.

FFS, I was going to say something like “what the fuck DID JD Vance say to the Pope, but here it has already become a meme!

Perfect picture for that caption!
Talking about Popes, they did a movie called Conclave, last year that was very decent. 7.3/10 . Its about the intricacies and politics behind the scenes. Was nominated for Oscars. I like Ralph Fiennes.

Richard Dawkins says in 'The God Delusion' Mother Mary's accession to heaven -IE her body literally flew to Heaven- was made up by the Papacy 'thinking about it' in the 1800s. There is nothing biblical about it.

If it was biblical then you can say the Vatican were consistent, but to reject
all of known science with zero evidence by just thinking about it ???????

At least they could of seen an apparation or something but thinking about it ?????

If Dawkins is right then you have your answer.
No sign from God chooses the next Pope, they just think about it
and no followers question it.

The Christian right got Trump elected because they do not think about it

Here's a thought for you...they don't receive signs period. They may choose who becomes pope eventually believing a certain individual will represent the papal state best. Sure they pray, but prayers do what? It does give reassurance that the decision made is the right one. They probably spend their time mulling over who will be next in line, follow guidelines on how to choose the best candidate.

I think yoiu are correct. But, the Vatican highest belief is God will answer prayers and give you guidence

They say it everyday in the Lords Prayer Jesus taught his diciples

I wonder what is the sign they look for ? How do they know God has answered and their decision is not manmade?

Seems like a reasonable question that the conclave should answer. Is it a secret?

The answer is always vague. Every priest will tell you to keep the faith.

Christianity: Approximately 2.6 billion adherents, accounting for about 31.7% of the global population.

Islam: Approximately 2.04 billion adherents, representing over 25% of the global population.
The difference being that maybe 25% of Christians are devout compared to 75% of Muslims.
