There is good advice on the web for getting rid of pop-up ads in Firefox and Internet Explorer.

The solution varies, depending on what you use.

In Explorer, have you gone to Tools, Pop-Up Blocker and adjusted your settings?

Do you have Windows 7 or 8, restore the OS from the first backup. Or do what I did a month and half ago. I formatted my computer clean and re-installed everything.

Check on the bottom of the ad and see if there is a name on it. Then do a Bing search on that name and see what is said about how to remove the pop-up. They are not a virus but a semi-legitimate program that somehow got a free ride onto your computer. Had that problem a month or so ago.

I had this issue. It was called the Win32.exe virus. Real nasty one. Can only be found using a free checker for windows called Spybot. Had to take it in and have my system scrubbed because it attaches itself as a window program so most virrus checkers/blockers don't catch it. It then let's in the adware like crazy.

I use spybot, CCCleaner and Norton regularily to find the shit. Sometimes you need to run multiple platforms to get them all.

Careful wazup. Sometimes the treatment can be worse than the disease. If you panic and load your PC up with several flavours of supposed anti-spyware shit, they will fuck with each other and some will likely be near impossible to remove. Get an ad blocker. Chances are that is all you need. But if you are worried about spyware/malware infecting you 'pooter, then run a scan on your computer with whatever antivirus program you already have. If you don't have any antivirus, then why the fuck not? And install one of the free ones (AVG, for example).
