First, Holland was last hit by a significant hurricane over 50 years ago. The Gulf gets several every year. New Orleans continues to sink, which will reguire higher and higher levees at the same time that ocean levels are predicted to rise. The Atlantic and Gulf waters are also likely to rise in temperature in the coming years which will not necessarily lead to more hurricanes, but will lead to larger ones. Add to that the natural barrier of swamps and islands that extended out around the delta, once protecting New Orleans, is fast disappearing. Anyone dippy enough to rebuild there can go right ahead. Just don't tie it to my insurance rates when the shit hits the fan.
not talking bout hurri's hitting holland, but rather how lowland they are and how bad of a situation it used to be centuries ago befroe they built their massive leeves......

ERNESTO now looks like missing New Orleans and skimming the gulf coast of Florida from Key West to Tampa eventually cutting across northeast to South Carolina. Landfall expected somewhere near Tampa on Wednesday afternoon

The point I was making is that they are different and unique situations. Geologists who have studied the delta are suggesting New Orleans could become the New Atlantis, untenable to live in as early as 2050 and completely submerged by the end of the century. At some point soon we might have to admit all the effort to rebuild it, especially in the lowest areas, makes no sense.

So you've been there. Let's be polite and just call it a sinkhole.

All hurricanes start off as tropical storms and The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is not really known for trying to create drama.
And you base this on what info?

Ernesto is now projected to come ashore somewhere south of Fort Myers to as far north as Tampa. It will most likely be a cat 2-4 hurricane depending on the breakup over Cuba. Read the NOHA discussion section for more info. Predicting landfall only becomes difficult when it's barely offshore as Fort Myers found out 2 years in a row~!

Over open water...with a hundred miles of latidtude...they can predict course..but at the last moment these things can change direction by 2 degrees and reak havoc.

Look for ernesto to reach 2-4 status after Cuba...and more than likely hit Tampa more than Fort Myers...it will pick up speed after Cuba over open warm water...and that may well take it North. At least that is the latest discussion of the models the NOHA is using.
