Can any of you compare Bangkok/Pattaya to Phuket/Patong?

Wish I could. I didn't have time to visit Phuket on my trip -- it's definitely on my list next time.

IMHO Patong (Phuket) was much better – sort of like a quality over quantity thang. Pattaya has a well-developed sex trade industry but I think suffers from being too close to Bkk. If you don't have the time, by all means it is a Wonderland of choice. The connosieur will travel to Patong (better beaches, and more exclusive resorts elsewhere on the island).

I'm thinking about returning to Phuket/Patong on my next trip to Thailand but am curious to know if Bangkok/Pattaya would be a better choice.

If you are going to fly half way around the world and landing in Bangkok, why not check it out?
Pattaya is very close and easy to check out.

Bangkok and Pattaya offer far greater selection and other things to do, but if a nice beach is important to you, spend most of your time in Phuket.

A couple of comments....as far as Cancun- totally overrated, an average of 2 million tourists visit Cancun, Cozumel or the Mayan Riviera area, trust me you don't have to use an SP there...Isla Mujeres with the boat cruise- it's like shooting fish in a barrell. Ilocos Sur or Angeles City in the Philippines...cheap, but; dirty(bad dirty guys, not good dirty)....and then there's the jewel of South East asia Pattaya Beach- for the people who've been there, they know and for the ones that are curious - go find out, it's woth the Cathay Pacific ticket.
