Exactly, recent news stories pointing to better chances of fighting off STDs explains these studies were related to third world countries in which many men suffered from poor hygene. The headlines made it sound like circumcision prevented all STDs but the study itself showed that circumcision helped those who don't clean properly.

The statement seems to unwittingly legitimize any assault on an infant for the satisfaction of adults' sexual fetishes. From an outside perspective, it's hard to see how this is less objectionable than any other physical manipulation or molestation of an infant to suit the sexual preferences of others.
Exactly, again! I always laugh when I hear people defend their decisions to circumsize this way. I always ask them: the majority of men like large breasts. If you had a daughter, would you get her implants? They hem and haw and say "it's different" but can't really explain why exactly it is different, they just say it is.
