You don't need to drive to Halifax.The only thing that's not "single use plastic" is a plastic shopping bag, first it's used to get grocery home and then it's used to throw out the garbage.
Most items in stores are wrapped in plastic, that's single use plastic. Good luck getting rid of that. Big business would never allow it.
I used to collect all my garbage bags and plastic straws and once a year would drive to Halifax and throw them in the Ocean but I don't do it anymore.
You remeber all that plastic that you dutifully threw in the blue bin over the years? You know the plastic they told you was being "recycled"? Bad news, it's physically impossible to recycle plastic.
So we'd load it into containers and send it to China. (Because the Chinese have a secret recipe to recycle plastic. Yeah, that's it. The Chinese.). In actual fact, they just proceed to dump it in the ocean and then send us the bill for "recycling" all of it. So odds are very good that some of your straws did indeed make it into the ocean.
