PIN NUMBER REVERSAL (GOOD TO KNOW)

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM
machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse.
For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321.

The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card
you placed in the machine

The machine will still give you the moneyyou requested, but unknown to
the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.

This information was recently broadcast on CTV and it states that it
is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

I checked with my Bank of Nova Scotia to see if this was correct and
staff said yes this information is correct.

Please pass this along to everyone possible

The point is that your friend is as much of a sucker as you are.

What if somebody else has chosen a PIN # that was the reverse of yours, simply by chance?

I thought this was BS. I mean, wouldn't the banks tell us by now?

Even if there was a 911 button, by the time they got to an ATM, you'd be robbed if not worse, and the thieves would be long gone.
ummm... but that 'somebody' wouldn't be sharing the same bank card as you doofus. I think this procedure works when you're held at gunpoint, dragged to the atm and forced to withdraw money using your 'card'. I don't think the police will be notified if you just walked up to the atm and put in your pin backwards without swiping your card

No NO Definetely not BS. It's true I say. The poor shill, er poster. Be nice. J69 was close but missed it by just a little.

I checked with the toothfairy and she says it is true except, its not the police who get notified and come, it's Santa's elves and eight flying reindeer. :D

They won't come if your pin is 4 repeat numbers or a palindrome though. She said something about Darwin and too stupid to deserve rescue but I was too busy mentally undressing her too pay attention by that point.

It is common enough for security systems to have an Alert PIN. For example, if you reverse the last two digits of your PIN the security system would still accept the PIN but would notify the alarm company. Different systems have different mechanisms (and some don't offer this feature at all).

My security system has an "alarm" code.... type that instead of the regular code and the alarm is still shut off, but the police will be sent with the knowledge that you were "under duress" when the alarm was deactivated.

Could the ATM Pin be used as the OP said.. sure... when you originally choose your pin they would just have to make sure it wasn't the same forwards and backwards.

Do they do this? Not at this time.

Would it make much sense? Probably not... you would more than likely be robbed and the crook long gone before the cops would be able to show up.

yes
I tried this with my account # 453289875 at Scotia Bank with PIN # 2463. I have $54,786.42 in my account and it would not let me take out any money. My name is Harry F.Ucker.

Anyone have any ideas?

The "alarm" PIN is your actual PIN + 911. It's set up that way so that it is easy to remember. For example, if your PIN is 12345, if you key in 13256 (12345+911) it will alert the police. Just be sure you can add quickly in your head.
BS.... even if it were true (and I'd think the bank would have mentioned something about it when I got my account) it would be a stupid system.... most people couldn't add 911 to their pin in their head at the best of times..... sure as heck willing to bet most of the ones who can can't do it with a gun to their head.....
