My Grandmother had a pug (Leopold) and was in no way a trendy person. She needed a small dog for a small apt. and he needed a home. He was a whole lot sweeter than a lot of small dogs, and a lot less yappy.
Sad thing about pugs is they are so inbred for the short snout i.e. squashed in face they have breathing problems and suffer. A lot of different breeds have various such genetic disorders. This is off topic of the thread but people by buying these dogs perpetuate the inbreeding.
