"Manila, Philippines Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to jail people who refuse to be vaccinated against the coronavirus as his country battles one of Asia's worst outbreaks, with more than 1.3 million cases and 23,000 deaths.

"You choose, vaccine or I will have you jailed," Duterte said in a televised address on Monday following reports of low turnouts at several vaccination sites in the capital, Manila.

Duterte's remarks contradict those of his health officials, who have said that while people are urged to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, it was voluntary.

"Don't get me wrong, there is a crisis in this country," Duterte said. "I'm just exasperated by Filipinos not heeding the government."

As of June 20, Philippine authorities had fully vaccinated 2.1 million people, making slow progress toward the government's target to immunize up to 70 million people in the country of 110 million this year.

Duterte, who has been criticized for his tough approach to containing the virus, also stood by his decision not to let schools reopen.

He's not afraid, he just wants to see deniers jailed. I do as well. Jailed or abandoned on a deserted water-locked island surrounded by great white sharks.
It is not even about that. You just like having fun with these guys.

But in all seriousness, there are plenty of people who are immune compromised that will get very sick if they catch COVID and they have no options for taking the vaccine if they want one.

We need herd immunity for these vulnerable people. Wanting to protect ourselves and recognizing our responsibility to others is important and has nothing to do with fear and everything to do with being responsible.

But I guess CM figures he can troll by calling everything “fear”. Projecting if you ask me.

If you are vaccinated why are you still afraid?
If you are not vaccinated, why are you not afraid/concerned for yourself & others you may infect?

Or concerned about the pandemic & doing all you can to act responsibly, do your part to help end it & bring back normal life or at least a "new normal"?

Being vaccinated doesn't make anyone unable to suffer or die from covid or unable to harm others by infecting them.

This has literally been addressed dozens of times on Terb alone never mind elsewhere.

Is he seriously asking again and why should anyone answer. If he either refuses to listen or is incapable of understanding something so simple all those times why would this time be different.

Stupid or troll, very hard to tell the difference.

A typical conversation with Canadaman and most covidiots on Terb.

CM: Why shouldn't I eat yellow snow.
Terb: It's most likely piss.

It is fear this level of fear did not exist back in 2018 the last flu season when hospitals were overloaded with flu cases. Toronto public health and others openly admitted to inflated the covid deaths

Surgeries postponed after severe flu cases overwhelmed Toronto ICU (citynews.ca)

OSTED FEB 13, 2018 5:23 PM EDT

LAST UPDATED FEB 13, 2018 AT 6:47 PM EDT

At least one Toronto hospital has had to delay elective surgeries as patients with severe influenza complications have overwhelmed local ICUs, CityNews has learned.

Michael Garron Hospital, formerly Toronto East General Hospital, has postponed seven cancer surgeries as a result of a shortage of beds in the ICU since December.

Carmine Stumpo, vice-president of programs at Michael Garron Hospital, says it’s been a juggling act for surgeons as they grapple with both critically ill flu patients and those requiring major cancer surgery.

“They’re usually larger cancer cases and they require more intense monitoring,” Stumpo said. “It was seven cases and we’ve been able to complete all those cases, so the work is done and the patients are cared for.

“Again, we wanted to make sure we do it in the safest possible way.”

Stumpo says on average the patients have had to wait less than a week to get the required surgery. In each case, the patients received care within the targeted wait times set out by Ontario’s Ministry of Health.

“With our surgeon activity, we’ve noticed an increased use of our ICU-related influenza cases as well as complications of influenza,” Stumpo said. “We also use the ICU to care for patients post-operatively

Hospitals Overwhelmed by Flu Patients Are Treating Them in Tents

BY AMANDA MACMILLAN

JANUARY 18, 2018 2:28 PM EST

The 2017-2018 influenza epidemic is sending people to hospitals and urgent-care centers in every state, and medical centers are responding with extraordinary measures: asking staff to work overtime, setting up triage tents, restricting friends and family visits and canceling elective surgeries, to name a few.

So now you jump from Toronto to the USA, how convenient. I don't remember governments around the world shutting everything down, do you?

It is fear this level of fear did not exist back in 2018 the last flu season when hospitals were overloaded with flu cases.
We've covered this before:

hospitals where overloaded during past flu seasons.

what makes this year different?

2011

Hospitals overwhelmed by surge of flu cases - The Globe and Mail

2013

Hospitals overwhelmed by flu and norovirus patients | CTV News
What's different:

1) the flu is not covid, so it's not as infectious or deadly.

I calculated covid/flu/pneumonia deaths to be at least 3X as high in 2020 as any previous year listed above in Canada.

2) unlike with covid, the annual flu vaccine was available to everyone months before some hospitals were strained in 2011 & 2013. Yet some hospitals got strained anyways.

3) extreme safety measures were not in place in 2011 or 2013. If they were the strain on hospitals would have been easily averted. Without such measures covid in 2020-2021 would have caused a major horror show far worse than what we have seen, with multiple times the number or deaths.

What's the same:

1) elective surgeries have been postponed during covid and during 2011's strain on some hospitals. So there is precedent for this type of action. Even during a flu season.

These news reports are from 2011 and 2013 respectively:

"Unlike last year, when the H1N1 pandemic virus was the main influenza strain, public health officials are now battling H3N2, a seasonal flu that disproportionately affects the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. Toronto has had more than 700 laboratory-confirmed flu cases this season, compared to the 100 or so cases it sees every year. Winnipeg reported 135 flu cases between July, 2010, and Jan. 8; the city had nine lab-confirmed cases during the same period in 2007-08.

"A colleague of mine and some others around here are starting to call this whole problem a flunami,..."

"... Michael Gardam, medical director of infection prevention and control at the University Health Network, echoed the sentiment. "I've never seen a flu year like this," he said. "This is by far the worst flu year I've ever seen. It's a mess."

"At a news conference Wednesday, Alberta’s Dr. Dickout...

"...those sick with the flu that in most cases, the illness can be managed at home and there’s no need for emergency medical care. In fact, to avoid the risk of infecting others, it’s best to stay at home until you’re feeling better, they say.

Dickout said patients should also look into the other options available for their care to help reduce the pressure on emergency departments. In addition to seeing their family doctors, those worried about their symptoms can also visit walk-in clinics, urgent care centres, Primary Care Networks and Family Care Clinics.

Dickout added, though, that emergency rooms will never turn away those who need treatment.

I noticed you used the word communist. I don't think that word means what you think it means.
Don't feel bad, it seems communist and fascist have much like the word troll taken on meanings to make such terms useless.
